Custom Abakus integration development

Appfront builds integrations with Abakus, the practice software for physiotherapists that combines patient records, diary, claims and bookkeeping in one package. Abakus already works with partners for exercise programmes and is connected to the Landelijke Database Fysiotherapie (the national physiotherapy database). For practices and practice chains with their own app, reporting, HR system or website, we build the connection so that data on appointments, treatments and measurements is not retyped.

What is an Abakus integration?

Abakus is an administrative package for physiotherapists: it includes the electronic health record, the diary, the claims system and the bookkeeping, along with a portal for patients. The package contains well over seven hundred measurement instruments and checks whether record-keeping follows the guidelines. Abakus is connected to the Landelijke Database Fysiotherapie and works with partners such as Fytek and Physitrack for exercise programmes.

Whatever those partners don't cover is often handled by hand. A practice chain wants to compare occupancy and treatments by location, and exports each location to a spreadsheet. A practice with its own app or website wants to show patients something from Abakus, and copies it across. Anyone who tracks therapists' rosters and hours in an HR system enters them twice. And measurement results that the practice wants to use for its own research or quality policy stay locked in the record.

We build custom solutions because practices differ: how many locations, which systems sit alongside Abakus, and which data needs to go where. Which integration options Abakus offers for your situation, and on what terms, we look at in the first step, together with you and with the supplier. Patient data receives the most care throughout.

Data in one place

How we build your Abakus integration

We start with your practice: which systems you use alongside Abakus, which data is currently handled by hand, who needs to see what, and which patient data is involved. Then, together with the Abakus supplier, we look at which route is available. We often start with figures on appointments and occupancy, because they don't require patient names. Measurement results and data for your own app follow once the first integration is running well. That way you quickly see whether the integration saves time before any patient data is added, and afterwards we maintain it when Abakus or your own systems change.

1
Mapping your practice

Your systems, data and who needs to see what.

2
Route agreed with the supplier

What Abakus offers for your situation.

3
Building the integration

Data in both directions, with checks.

4

Go-live, monitoring, and maintenance when things change.

What an Abakus integration actually does

The components below appear in almost every Abakus integration. Which ones you need depends on your practice.

Agreements

Per location and therapist.

Treatments

Numbers and types.

Assessments

Outcomes for quality policy.

Locations

All locations side by side.

Privacy

As little patient data as possible.

Log

Every message recorded.

Who we build an Abakus integration for

The integration is intended for practices that use Abakus alongside other systems. The more locations and systems you have, the more time an integration saves.

Practice chains

Multiple locations. Figures side by side matter most.

Practices with their own app

Patients in your own environment. Privacy is key.

Health centres

Multiple disciplines. Overview matters.

Software suppliers

A product for physiotherapists. Connecting to it is what matters.

Technology and integrations

This page is about integrations with Abakus. For custom practice software, see our page on physiotherapy software; for secure data exchange, see our pages on the VECOZO integration and the Zorgmail integration; and if you work with a different package, see our pages on the SpotOnMedics integration and the FysioManager integration. You can read about our approach on building software.

Why choose Appfront for your Abakus integration?

Figures exported per location, and data entered twice, cost a practice time every week. That is what we build on: data in one place, figures for all locations side by side, and an integration agreed with the supplier.

No exports

Figures arrive automatically.

All locations

Side by side in one overview.

Careful

As little patient data as possible.

Security and privacy in an Abakus integration

The integration may process data about patients, treatments and measurements, and that is health data. We only use the data that is needed, without names wherever possible, access credentials are stored encrypted, and every message is logged.

The integration runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily backups. We record the processing in a data processing agreement.

Frequently asked questions about an Abakus integration

Questions practices ask before they get started.

Abakus is an administrative package for physiotherapists, combining the patient record, the diary, the claims system and the bookkeeping in one. It comes with a patient portal and includes more than seven hundred measurement instruments. Abakus is connected to the national physiotherapy database (Landelijke Database Fysiotherapie).

Yes, including with exercise programme partners such as Fytek and Physitrack. If your system is on that list and the integration does what you need, custom work isn't necessary. A custom integration is for an app, report or system that isn't on the list.

That depends on what Abakus offers for your situation. Which data is available, how access is arranged and under what conditions, we look at in the first step, together with you and with the supplier. Only then do we build, so you don't get stuck on a route that doesn't exist.

Yes. Appointments, occupancy and treatments per location and per therapist come together in a single overview, without anyone having to export per location. This usually doesn't require patient names, so it is often the first step.

Yes, if the route via Abakus allows it. Results from measurement instruments can go to your own report without names, so you can see how treatments are progressing per condition or per therapist. Which measurements are usable for this, we decide together with you.

Carefully. We only use what is needed, without names wherever possible, and we record who sees which data. The processing is set out in a data processing agreement, and every message is logged.

The integration reports it and records what went wrong. The message is retried or queued for review, so no data is lost and nothing arrives twice.

For practice chains and health centres with multiple locations, for practices with their own app or website, and for software suppliers who want to connect their product to Abakus. If you work with a single location and the standard partners, an integration is often not needed.
