Recruitment ATS Salesforce-based Dutch market-specific

Custom Connexys integration

Appfront builds custom Connexys integrations for recruitment, staffing and temp agencies that want to connect their ATS to payroll, accounting, identity and assessment platforms. Because Connexys runs on Salesforce, we work with the Salesforce REST and Bulk APIs, Apex and the Connexys Express API, aligned with the temp-staffing collective labour agreement, GDPR and the Dutch-specific compliance your agency deals with every day.

What is a Connexys integration?

Connexys is a Dutch Applicant Tracking System that runs as a managed package on the Salesforce platform. It is mainly used by recruitment, staffing and temp agencies that want to manage recruitment, placement, contracts and invoicing within one environment. Because Connexys is deeply embedded in Salesforce, every integration is technically also a Salesforce integration, with the same APIs, sandbox flow and Apex capabilities.

In practice, a custom integration means synchronising candidate and placement data from Connexys with your payroll, accounting or client portal, running KvK and identity checks automatically, writing assessment results back to the candidate record, and returning signed employment contracts to the ATS. Streaming API or webhooks provide real-time updates to time registration, BI warehouses and CRM.

Appfront builds in line with the official Salesforce REST API documentation, the OWASP ASVS security standard and the Dutch frameworks for recruitment data, such as GDPR, the temp-agency CAO and Wwft checks. We work with sandbox and production through Salesforce DX so that releases are predictable and repeatable, even when your agency serves multiple labels or CAOs.

Salesforce-native ATS

Connexys is a managed package on Salesforce. Custom objects, Apex and flows are available for deep custom logic — useful for agencies with their own collective agreement rules, margins or placement workflows that don't fit standard ATS fields.

Real-time candidate flow

Using the Salesforce Streaming API or platform events, we make status changes on a vacancy or placement flow straight through to payroll, the client portal or BI. No more overnight batches for processes that change by the hour.

Built-in Dutch compliance

Connexys is closely attuned to the Dutch labour market: staffing collective labour agreements (uitzend-CAO), ABU/NBBU reporting obligations, Wwft screenings and GDPR requirements for candidate personal data. Our integrations translate those rules into concrete validations and audit logging.

Our development process for Connexys integrations

We follow an approach that is typical for Salesforce environments: sandbox first, mandatory Apex tests and releases via Salesforce DX. From an initial analysis of your managed package and existing customisations through to go-live and ongoing management, every step is aimed at an integration your recruitment and finance teams can trust.

1
Analysis & scope

We map out which Connexys objects and custom fields are involved, which adjacent systems connect (payroll, accounting, client portal) and which CAO and Wwft rules belong in the data flow.

2
Architecture

We choose between REST, Bulk, Streaming API or an Apex layer based on volume and latency. Authentication via OAuth 2.0 (connected app), error handling and idempotent events are defined upfront.

3
Development

Implementation in the sandbox with Apex tests, structured logging and monitoring. You will see working builds along the way on a dedicated Connexys sandbox so recruiters can test along.

4
Go-live & management

Controlled release via Salesforce DX to production, with data validation and a safety net, followed by ongoing management, monitoring and further development based on usage.

What a Connexys integration concretely delivers

Every Connexys integration is tailored to your candidate-to-invoice chain, the adjacent systems and the type of CAO you operate under. Below are the features we most often deliver for recruitment, staffing and temp agency organisations that run Connexys as their central ATS. For a broader view, see also our page on building recruitment software.

Connexys to payroll

Integration with NMBRS, Visma-Loon, ADP, Loket or AFAS: once a placement is signed and approved in Connexys, employee data, contract details and hours flow through to payroll. CAO-aware mapping of scales, allowances and pension thresholds.

Connexys to accounting

Integration with Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS or Visma eAccounting for automatic invoicing of hours and placements. Margin logic, VAT rules and debtor synchronisation are translated into your own general ledger structure and invoice lines.

Identification and KvK checks

Automatic enrichment via the KvK API for clients, and eHerkenning or iDIN for candidate identification. Wwft screenings and sanctions list checks are recorded on the Connexys record with an audit trail, so compliance remains verifiable after the fact.

Assessment and LinkedIn inflow

Integrations with TestGorilla, Codility and HackerRank write assessment results directly to the candidate record. Via LinkedIn Recruiter (or a respectful custom scraping flow), new candidates and CV fields flow into Connexys on the right vacancy track.

Contracts and e-signing

Employment contracts and placement confirmations are generated from a Connexys template and signed via DocuSign or Signhost. The signed PDF and metadata land back on the Connexys record, ready for payroll and archive checks.

Data warehouse and BI

Connexys data to Snowflake, BigQuery or Azure Synapse for reporting on time-to-hire, margin per client, recruiter productivity and CAO mix. One verifiable source for management information alongside the operational Connexys environment.

Typical use cases in practice

A Connexys integration turns out quite differently for each agency. A temp agency working under several CAOs has different priorities from a specialist secondment firm or a recruitment cooperative with multiple labels. We regularly see a number of recurring patterns, and for each of these we have a working setup, with attention to the Salesforce layer and the Dutch compliance requirements around it.

Temp and secondment agencies

Agencies that operate under the ABU or NBBU CAO and run their recruitment, placement and payroll entirely in Connexys. We connect the ATS to time registration (Mtime, Tigris, your own portal), payroll (NMBRS, Visma-Loon) and accounting so the chain from vacancy to invoice runs without double entry. See also our API integrations.

Specialist recruitment

Agencies for IT, finance, healthcare or engineering that select on expertise and rely heavily on assessment data. Enrich Connexys with TestGorilla, Codility or HackerRank, orchestrate LinkedIn inflow, and make the complete candidate score visible in a single Salesforce view for recruiters and hiring managers.

White-label candidate and client portal

A dedicated portal for candidates (application status, time registration, downloading contracts) and for clients (vacancy overview, placements, hours worked). Connexys remains the source, but your clients and candidates see an environment in your own branding, sometimes even under different labels of a cooperative.

Marketing and BI stack

Connecting Connexys to HubSpot or Marketo for candidate nurture and client marketing, and to Microsoft 365 for email and calendar sync. We also add a data warehouse layer for BI with operational KPIs such as time-to-hire and margin per CAO, useful for agencies running several brands under one holding.

Technology we use

We build Connexys integrations on the Salesforce stack the managed package runs on, supplemented with a backend in a language your own team can maintain. The exact choice depends on which adjacent systems are involved and how deep we need to go into Apex. See our integrations page for a broader overview.

Why choose Appfront for your Connexys integration?

Appfront has extensive experience with API integrations for a wide range of organisations in the Netherlands, from SMEs to mid-market companies. We always start with a thorough analysis of your Salesforce environment, the Connexys managed package and your working processes. An integration must not only work technically but also add practical value for recruiters, finance and hiring managers.

For every integration we write clear documentation and make sure your own team, or a future Salesforce partner, can understand and manage the integration. No black box, but transparent Apex, structured logging and clear agreements on monitoring and maintenance. At the same time, we keep an eye on the upgrade path of the Connexys package so that customisations do not cause version conflicts.

You work with a dedicated point of contact who understands both the Salesforce layer and the wider integration layer (payroll, accounting, portal). This keeps communication short, avoids the wrong "Salesforce question" label and speeds up decisions when choices need to be made during the build.

We build custom solutions when iPaaS tools such as Zapier, Make or Workato fall short, when you have customisations in Connexys that do not fit into an AppExchange app, or when Dutch-specific compliance (such as the Wbo temporary agency CAO or the Wwft) requires a deeper Apex layer. For recruitment cooperatives with multiple labels and white-label portals, we build exactly that custom layer on top of the standard ATS. See also middleware, custom software and web app development.

Security and privacy for Connexys integrations

An ATS holds special category personal data by definition: CV data, identification, and sometimes health or criminal record information via VOG (certificate of good conduct) processes. The Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) pays close attention to the recruitment sector. Appfront builds in line with Salesforce security best practices and the OWASP ASVS. In practice, this means connected apps with scoped OAuth permissions, secrets stored in Salesforce Named Credentials or an external vault, webhook signature validation and separate permissions for each integration.

Salesforce is itself ISO 27001, SOC 2 and GDPR compliant. We document the data flows between Connexys, payroll, accounting and any portals, so your record of processing activities is complete and you can demonstrate compliance with the GDPR. For HR AI (for example candidate scoring or matching), we take the EU AI Act into account, which classifies recruitment AI as high-risk.

More on our security approach: information security policy and CVD policy.

  • GDPR-compliant processing and data minimisation
  • Retention periods defined per Connexys object type
  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest
  • Connected apps with scoped OAuth and least privilege
  • Named Credentials or a vault for secrets
  • Audit logs on candidate PII and placements
  • Automatic retries, idempotency and dead-letter queues
  • Wwft- and AI Act-aware process design
  • Documentation for your record of processing activities

Frequently asked questions about Connexys integrations

Answers to the questions we are asked most often about Connexys integrations and adjacent Dutch recruitment stacks.

We integrate Connexys with almost any system that offers an API. In practice this often means payroll (NMBRS, Visma-Loon, ADP, AFAS, Loket), accounting (Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS, Visma eAccounting), identity and compliance (KvK API, eHerkenning, iDIN, Wwft screenings), assessment (TestGorilla, Codility, HackerRank), e-signing (DocuSign, Signhost), time registration (Mtime, custom portals), marketing automation (HubSpot, Marketo), data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery) and Microsoft 365 for mail and calendar sync.

Connexys is a Dutch managed package on Salesforce, strongly focused on temporary employment, secondment and staffing with Dutch-specific collective labour agreement (CAO) and Wwft logic. Bullhorn is an international full-stack ATS and CRM, common among larger staffing organisations and with its own API ecosystem. Homerun is a lightweight ATS for in-house recruitment at SMEs and scale-ups, geared more towards candidate experience than temporary-employment payroll. Which one fits depends on your business model and existing IT landscape.

If there is an AppExchange connector or iPaaS template (Zapier, Make, Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft) that covers your use case a hundred per cent, we use it — simply because it's faster and cheaper. We opt for custom when the standard product is too limited for complex multi-system orchestration, when you have your own Apex customisations in Connexys, when Dutch compliance (Wwft, collective agreement mapping) requires deeper logic, or when you need a white-label portal for multiple labels.

Candidate PII is particularly sensitive, and the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) pays close attention to recruitment. We work from data minimisation: only the fields the business flow genuinely needs, with explicit retention periods per object type. Connected apps receive scoped OAuth permissions, secrets are held in Named Credentials or an external vault, and all access to candidate records is logged. We document the data flows between Connexys and adjacent systems for your record of processing activities. For HR AI, we account for the AI Act classification of high-risk.

Always. We build and test in a Salesforce sandbox (Developer, Developer Pro or Partial Copy, depending on what you have), write mandatory Apex tests and release to production via Salesforce DX. This gives you a repeatable, auditable release flow in which your own team can keep an eye on progress. For larger changes, we work with a staging sandbox where recruiters or finance staff can test before a release goes to production.

Yes. For staffing and temp agencies, the collective labour agreement (CAO) determines how scales, allowances, phasing and pensions are recorded. We translate those rules into concrete validations in the Connexys payroll integration, so that placements that do not comply with the CAO cannot simply pass through the chain. For clients, we arrange KvK enrichment and Wwft screenings against sanctions lists, recorded on the Connexys record with an audit trail. Where necessary, we use eHerkenning or iDIN to verify candidate identity.

The cost is determined by the complexity of the data flows, the number of connected systems, the required latency (batch versus streaming), the extent of Apex customisation, and the requirements around CAO and Wwft logic. Ongoing management, monitoring and Connexys version upgrades also affect the total investment. After a no-obligation analysis of your situation, we provide a clear quote with a realistic scope.

Yes. Appfront regularly takes over existing Salesforce and Connexys integrations, including those originally set up by another party or an in-house Apex developer. We review the API integrations, Apex code, error handling and sandbox flow, document the current setup and propose improvements. From that point on, we can handle adjustments, extensions and monitoring, including Connexys package upgrades and timely OAuth credential rotation.
