ATS & recruitment Marketplace + custom Scale-up focused

Custom Homerun integration

Appfront builds custom Homerun integrations that make your recruitment stack work together — from payroll and HRIS to assessments, e-signing and data warehouses. Using the Homerun REST API, webhooks and OAuth 2.0, we deliver candidate data, vacancies and pipeline events exactly where your team needs them. No more loose spreadsheets, no duplicate data entry and no surprises during audits.

What is a Homerun integration?

Homerun (Homerun B.V., founded in 2014 in Amsterdam) is a cloud-based ATS aimed at scale-ups and mid-market organisations of fifty to five hundred employees. The platform stands out with a modern drag-and-drop workflow, a well-developed candidate journey and a marketplace of connectors for job boards, assessments and calendar tools. For our clients, Homerun is often the first system recruiters want to keep using themselves — which is precisely why smart integrations matter so much.

In practice, a Homerun integration means synchronising candidate data, vacancies and pipeline events with the other systems in your HR, finance and marketing landscape. Think of a hire that automatically lands in payroll at NMBRS or Loket, an accepted offer that triggers the onboarding platform Appical, or a vacancy that is created straight away as a new campaign in HubSpot. Webhooks provide near-real-time updates, and OAuth 2.0 ensures secure access.

Appfront builds these integrations according to the official Homerun API documentation and the OWASP ASVS security standard. We align fields, mapping and error handling with your actual recruitment processes, so the integration grows with your organisation and continues to run reliably at peak volumes, such as seasonal hiring. See also our broader API integration services and the overview of integrations we carry out frequently.

Modern ATS for scale-ups

Drag-and-drop pipeline, employer-branded careers pages and a user experience that recruiters and hiring managers genuinely use. No need for a second system alongside it to manage vacancies or collect feedback.

REST API + webhooks

A well-documented REST API with OAuth 2.0, combined with webhooks for events such as a new application, stage update or hire. This makes real-time integrations possible without heavy polling.

Marketplace with a custom layer

The Homerun marketplace covers many standard integrations. We complement these with custom work where your payroll, HRIS or client portal is not in the catalogue, or where deep data mapping and validation are required.

Our development process for Homerun integrations

We work to a proven methodology that removes uncertainty early and delivers a stable recruitment integration. From an initial analysis of your vacancy flows and candidate fields through to go-live and ongoing management, every step is aimed at an integration that your recruiters, hiring managers and HR administrators can understand and trust themselves.

1
Analysis & scope

We map which candidate fields you synchronise, which pipeline stages trigger events, which data goes to payroll or HRIS, and what the GDPR context looks like for your candidates.

2
Architecture

We design the integration architecture, choose between webhooks and poll-based sync, set up OAuth 2.0 with the correct scopes, and define an error-handling strategy for rate limits.

3
Development

Implementation with automated tests, structured logging and monitoring. You will see working builds along the way and can give feedback before go-live.

4
Go-live & management

Controlled go-live with data validation and safeguards, followed by ongoing management, monitoring of API quotas and further development based on real recruitment data.

What a Homerun integration concretely delivers

Every Homerun integration is set up specifically for your type of vacancies, candidate fields and adjacent systems. Below are the features we most often deliver for organisations that use Homerun as the heart of their recruitment stack.

Homerun to payroll

Automated transfer of hires to NMBRS, Visma-Loon, ADP, Loket or AFAS. Personal details, contract details and start date travel securely across the line, with validation on IBAN, BSN format and CAO field. No more manual re-typing.

Homerun to HRIS

Integration with BambooHR, Personio or Loket-HR so that successful candidates are created as employees straight away. Job titles, cost centres and manager relationships are mapped, and the departmental structure stays consistent across systems.

Assessments & screening

Integration with TestGorilla, Codility or AssessFirst: as soon as a candidate moves to the next stage, the right test is automatically sent out and the result is written back to Homerun as a structured field, including the PDF report and summary.

eSigning & onboarding

Sign employment contracts via DocuSign, Signhost or Validsign and, once signed, activate Appical or Talmundo for the pre-boarding flow straight away. One click in Homerun, a complete transition from candidate to employee.

Vacancy feed to your own website

Show vacancies from Homerun directly on your own careers site or client portal, including filters, locations and an application form that writes back to Homerun. No iframes, just SEO-friendly pages.

Recruitment analytics

Data from Homerun to Snowflake, BigQuery or your own warehouse, plus dashboards in Looker, Power BI or Metabase. Time-to-hire, cost-per-hire, source-of-hire and pipeline conversion per job category, finally in one view.

Typical use cases in practice

A Homerun integration turns out very differently for each organisation. We often see a number of recurring patterns among scale-ups, mid-market employers and recruitment agencies, and for each of these we have a working setup with attention to data mapping, GDPR and further development.

Scale-ups with a steady hiring pace

Tech and SaaS scale-ups with fifty to five hundred employees and ongoing vacancies for engineers, sales and product. Homerun is their ATS, but payroll, HRIS and spend analytics sit elsewhere; our integration turns those separate systems into one coherent flow. See also our page on building recruitment software for scenarios where Homerun itself does not cover everything.

Recruitment agencies & cooperatives

Agencies, recruitment cooperatives and MSPs that serve multiple clients in the same Homerun environment, or that want a separate tenant per client. We build multi-tenant integration layers that keep data separate, invoice per client and report in a structured way, without recruiters noticing any difference in their workflow.

Sector under GDPR pressure

Healthcare, finance and public sector: employers where candidate PII and VOG (certificate of conduct) flows call for extra care. We integrate Homerun with the KvK API, iDIN, screening partners and archiving in line with the GDPR and the Dutch Data Protection Act (Wbp), with data minimisation and a retention period per field. You can also read about our broader integration approach.

Marketing & employer branding

Recruitment marketing teams who want to connect Homerun with HubSpot, Mailchimp and LinkedIn Recruiter. Talent pools automatically receive nurture flows, applicants see personalised content, and all activity flows back as attribution data, without recruiters having to duplicate any work.

Technology we use

We build Homerun integrations with the official REST API and webhooks, combined with the backend stack that suits you. The precise choice depends on the other party in the integration — payroll, HRIS, assessment or warehouse — and on the environment in which your own team continues to develop.

Why choose Appfront for your Homerun integration?

Appfront has extensive experience building API integrations for a wide range of organisations in the Netherlands. We always begin with a thorough analysis of your existing systems and processes; a Homerun integration must not only work technically, but also add practical value to your recruitment and HR way of working.

With every integration, we write clear documentation so that your own team, or a future supplier, can understand and manage the integration. No black box, but transparent code and clear agreements on monitoring, alerting and maintenance. If your internal tech role changes hands or grows, the next party can pick up the work seamlessly.

You work with a dedicated point of contact who understands both the technical and the functional side. This keeps communication short, prevents misunderstandings and speeds up decisions when choices need to be made during the build, for example about which candidate fields may or may not be sent to payroll.

Security and privacy in Homerun integrations

Recruitment data is by definition personal data, often including special categories (health, criminal record, ethnicity) that the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) scrutinises particularly strictly. Appfront builds according to Homerun security best practices and the OWASP ASVS. This means, among other things: OAuth tokens with the minimum necessary scopes, secrets held in a vault, webhook signature validation, and periodic audits of the data flows between the ATS and payroll.

Homerun itself runs on GDPR-compliant infrastructure within the European Union. We document the data flows, candidate fields and retention periods so that your record of processing activities is complete and you can demonstrably comply with the GDPR. For sectors under stricter supervision, such as healthcare, finance and temporary staffing under the Wbp, we build additional controls: data minimisation at source, automated deletion after the retention period, and separate tenant permissions.

The AI Act classifies HR-related AI applications as high-risk. If your recruitment flow uses automated scoring, ranking or pre-screening, we support you with the impact assessment, transparency requirements and audit logging that the law requires. Read more about our approach in our information security policy and responsible disclosure policy.

  • GDPR-compliant data processing and data minimisation
  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest
  • Role-based access and least-privilege OAuth scopes
  • Audit logs with traceable data flows
  • Automatic retries and dead-letter queues for rate limits
  • Monitoring and alerting on API quotas and anomalies
  • Secrets management in line with best practice
  • AI Act compliance for automated screening
  • Documentation for your record of processing activities

Frequently asked questions about Homerun integrations

Answers to the questions we most often receive about Homerun implementations.

Homerun and Recruitee both target the mid-market segment, scale-ups of fifty to five hundred employees, with a strong modern UX and a marketplace of connectors. Bullhorn is international and broader, aimed at larger recruitment organisations with deep CRM functionality; for staffing firms and agencies it is often the right choice. Connexys runs on Salesforce and is strong in the Dutch temporary staffing market, where Salesforce integration and collective labour agreement (CAO) complexity weigh heavily. The integrations you need depend more often on your HRIS, payroll and assessment tools than on the ATS itself. We are happy to advise based on your situation.

The Homerun marketplace covers many standard integrations: job boards, basic calendar sync, popular assessments. For those scenarios, a marketplace connector is often the smartest choice, as it goes live quickly and is maintained by Homerun itself. Custom development becomes worthwhile when no connector exists (a specific Dutch payroll system, for example), when the mapping needs to be deep (CAO fields, cost centre logic), when multi-tenant separation is required for a recruitment cooperative, or when the GDPR context is strict and you want data minimisation at the source. We assess per use case what makes sense. Sometimes the best solution is a combination of a marketplace connector and a thin custom layer.

Candidate data is special category personal data and falls under strict supervision by the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP). We apply data minimisation at the source: only the fields your recruitment process genuinely needs flow through the integration, and we map every field transfer to your record of processing activities. Retention periods are enforced technically: once the agreed period has expired, candidate records are automatically deleted or pseudonymised. For sectors with additional requirements (healthcare, finance, the Dutch Placement of Personnel by Intermediaries Act, Wbp), we build in audit logging, separate tenants and encryption at rest. For automated screening or scoring, we also help you work out the classification under the EU AI Act.

Yes. For recruitment agencies, cooperatives and MSPs serving multiple clients on a single Homerun environment, or on separate tenants, we build an integration layer that cleanly separates data and invoicing. Each client has its own credentials, its own reporting and its own mapping to payroll and HRIS. For recruiters this is invisible, as they work in one regular Homerun environment, but for compliance and invoicing everything is clearly separated. Shared talent pools with opt-in arrangements per client are also possible.

No. Homerun is a standalone cloud platform with its own REST API and webhooks, and it has no Salesforce layer underneath, unlike Connexys. This actually makes the integration architecture simpler: our integrations talk directly to the Homerun API and do not need to go through Salesforce first. If you use Salesforce yourself for CRM or customer success, we can of course connect Homerun to it via webhooks or Salesforce Connect, but it is not a requirement.

Costs are determined by the complexity of the data flows, the number of systems to connect, the desired synchronisation frequency and the amount of custom business logic. GDPR requirements, multi-tenant setup and ongoing maintenance also affect the total investment. A simple integration between Homerun and one payroll system is a shorter project than a fully orchestrated flow from Homerun to HRIS, payroll, onboarding, eSigning and a data warehouse. We always provide a clear quote following a no-obligation analysis of your situation.
