Custom fabric stock roll registration software

Appfront builds software for businesses that want to know their fabric stock roll by roll. Each roll gets a label with length, width, colour and dye lot, and after every cut the remaining length is updated. An order reserves metres on rolls from the same dye lot, so there is no colour variation within one product. And remnant lengths can be found for the next order, instead of disappearing into a corner.

What is fabric stock roll registration software?

Fabric is delivered on rolls, and every roll is different: its own length, sometimes a slightly different width, and a dye lot that may colour slightly differently from the last. For a product made up of several parts, those parts need to come from the same dye lot, otherwise the colour difference will show. After every cut, a shorter roll or a remnant is left over.

In practice, the stock in the system is recorded per article in metres, but not per roll. Whether there is enough on one roll for an order only becomes apparent during laying out. Two rolls from different dye lots end up being used together. Remnants sit in a pile and are no longer found, so new fabric is ordered while there is already enough in stock. And at stocktake, the totals never match.

We build custom software because businesses differ: which fabrics you stock, how rolls arrive and are labelled, how they are cut and sold, and which systems you use for orders and purchasing. The software works with scanning on the shop floor, so tracking each roll creates no extra work.

Every roll known

Length, width, colour and dye lot for each roll, with a label to scan.

Remnant lengths used

The new length after every cut, and remnants you can find again for the next order.

One dye lot per order

An order reserves metres on rolls from the same dye lot, so no colour variation occurs.

How we build your fabric stock roll registration software

We start with your stock: which fabrics, how rolls come in, how cutting is done, and where things go wrong. Labelling on arrival is often where everything starts. We set this up so it is quick, using supplier data where available, so the shop floor is not held up.

1
Stock mapped out

Your fabrics, rolls, labels, locations and the systems you use.

2
Rolls and labels

Receiving and labelling rolls, with dye lot and length.

3
Cutting and reserving

Deducting metres per cut, and reserving per order from a single dye lot.

4
Remnants and management

Remaining searchable, inventory, integrations, and then management.

What fabric stock roll registration software actually does

The components below come up at almost every company that stores fabric on rolls. Which ones you need depends on your stock.

Rolls

Per roll: item, colour, batch and length.

Labels

One code per roll to scan.

Write-off

Metres per cut, with the new remaining length.

Reservation

Metres per order from a single batch.

Remnants

Offcuts and remnant lengths searchable.

Discovery

Counting per roll and location.

Who we build roll-based fabric stock software for

The software is intended for companies that store fabric on rolls and use it by the metre.

Garment manufacturing

Many parts per product. The batch per order is the key.

Upholsterers

Custom work per client. Remnants matter most.

Wholesalers

Sales by the metre. The length per roll is what counts.

Technical textiles

Wide and expensive rolls. Errors per roll are the key issue.

Why Appfront for your roll-based fabric stock software?

A remnant that cannot be found is fabric you buy again. That is what we build on: every roll known, remnant lengths reused, and one batch per order.

Less re-buying

Remnants are used first.

No colour variation

Pieces from the same batch.

Stock stays accurate

Per roll, not just per item.

Security and privacy in roll-based fabric stock software

The software holds stock, orders, clients and purchase prices. Access is set up by role, and staff on the floor see only what they need to cut and scan.

The software runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily back-ups. Scanning still works if the connection briefly drops.

Frequently asked questions about roll-based fabric stock software

Questions companies with fabric on rolls ask before getting started.

It tracks length, width, colour and dye batch per roll, records metres used per cut, reserves metres per order from a single batch, makes remnants searchable, and supports stocktaking per roll and location.

Because an item in metres tells you nothing about whether a single roll has enough left, whether the rolls come from the same batch, or where the remnants are. Per roll you know this, and you can plan an order before a roll is unrolled.

On receipt, each roll gets a label with a code, along with the supplier's details where available. When cutting and moving, the code is scanned, so the roll is always known. Rolls already in stock are labelled during the first stocktake.

After a cut, the operator records the metres used, or measures the remaining length. The roll keeps its label, with the new length. A remnant below a threshold you choose becomes an offcut that you can search by length.

An order reserves metres on rolls from the same dye batch. If one batch does not have enough, the software flags this before cutting starts, so you can choose: a different batch for the whole order, or re-ordering.

Yes, provided it has an interface. Orders come from your order system or webshop, purchasing and receiving come from purchasing, and the stock value can be passed to accounting.

Ask that first. Some systems work with batches or lot numbers, and that may be enough. Custom development makes sense if you want to track remnant lengths per roll, reserve metres per batch, or if scanning on the shop floor isn't working at the moment.
