From sold design to work order Bill of materials, cutting list and CNC file Every piece of furniture tracked through the workshop

Custom app for production orders of bespoke furniture

Appfront builds apps for furniture makers and bespoke manufacturers who make every piece to order: from the sold design with dimensions, materials and finish, to a production order with bill of materials, cutting list and machining operations, distributed across the workstations in the workshop, with the status of each piece tracked from sawing through to packing. So that no order with a wrong measurement enters the workshop, and sales always knows where a customer's piece is.

What is an app for production orders of bespoke furniture?

A bespoke piece of furniture is conceived twice: once with the customer in the showroom, and once in the workshop. In between sits the production order. An app for production orders turns the sold design into what the workshop needs: each component with its dimensions, material and grain direction, the operations for each component, the hardware, the finish, and the sequence in which it moves through the workshop.

Without such an app, the production planner draws up each order anew, retypes measurements from the quote and prints work sheets that go missing in the workshop. A measurement that goes wrong in retyping only surfaces at assembly. And when a customer phones, sales walks into the workshop to ask how far along their cabinet is. With twenty orders in the workshop, that amounts to a day's work each week.

We build custom software because the app has to match your design process and your machines: how you design and sell, which CAD or configuration software you use, which saw and CNC machines you have and what file format they read, and which stations a piece of furniture passes through. A generic production package assumes batches; your workshop makes each piece once.

From design to order

Dimensions, materials and finish taken over from the quote or configurator, checked by production planning, and recorded as a production order that cannot change unnoticed.

Bill of materials and cutting list

For each piece, all parts with dimensions, material, thickness, grain direction and edge finish, with export to the saw and CNC and a list of fittings.

Status per piece

Each station signs off with a scan or a tap: cut, machined, assembled, finished, packed. Sales and planning can see where every piece is.

How we build your app for custom furniture production orders

We start with the handover: how a sold order currently reaches the workshop, where measurements get lost, and how often a part had to be redone.

1
Mapping orders and the workshop

How you design and sell, which software and machines you use, which stations a piece passes through, and where the handover currently stalls.

2
Production order and bill of materials

Converting a sold order into a production order, the bill of materials per piece, and checking by production planning.

3
Machines and workshop

The export to the saw and CNC, work sheets or screens per station, and signing off status in the workshop.

4
Integrating and taking over management

Integration with quote or configurator, planning, stock and delivery, reporting on lead time and rework, and ongoing management afterwards.

What a custom furniture production order app actually does

The components below come up for almost every furniture maker. Which ones you need depends on your machines and on how you currently design and sell.

Order takeover

Dimensions, materials, finish and options taken over from the quote or configurator into the production order, with a check for missing or illogical measurements.

Bill of materials per piece

All parts with dimensions, material, thickness, grain direction and edge finish, plus fittings and finishing materials, calculated from the design.

Machine export

Cutting lists and machining files for the saw and CNC, in the format your machines read, grouped by sheet material.

Work sheet per station

For each station, what needs doing to which part, on a screen or a printed sheet with a code, and signing off when it is done.

Material reservation

Sheet material, fittings and finishes reserved per order, with a warning if something is not in stock before the order is released.

Progress and rework

Status per piece per station, orders falling behind the delivery week, and parts that had to be redone, with the reason noted.

Who we build a custom furniture production order app for

The app is meant for businesses that make every piece to measure and where the handover from sales to the workshop is currently manual.

Furniture workshops

Unique pieces in small quantities. The bill of materials and the work sheet per station are the core.

Cabinet and kitchen makers

Many orders with the same structure but different dimensions. Order takeover from the configurator and machine export matter most.

Interior and shop fitters

Projects with dozens of pieces per commission. A production order per piece within the project and progress tracking are what is needed.

Made-to-measure manufacturers with online sales

Customers who configure their own pieces. Checking at takeover and status updates for the customer are the core.

Why choose Appfront for your bespoke furniture production order app?

A measurement that goes wrong on the workshop floor costs a part and a day. That is what we build around: the design captured once, the workshop reading from it, and everyone seeing where each piece of furniture stands.

No more re-typing dimensions

The production order comes straight from the approved design. What the client signed off is what the saw cuts.

The workshop knows what to do

Each station sees its parts and operations without searching for a drawing. A new team member can work from day one with the correct information.

Sales knows where the furniture is

The status of each piece is visible without walking into the workshop. An order falling behind its delivery week is flagged before the client calls.

Security and privacy for a bespoke furniture production order app

The app holds designs, client details, prices and production data. Access is set up by role: sales sees orders and status, production planning edits production orders, and the workshop sees the work orders for its own station. Every change to a released order is logged with name and time.

The app runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily backups. Integrations with machines run over the workshop's local network; tablets on the floor can only see their own station.

Frequently asked questions about a bespoke furniture production order app

Questions furniture makers ask before getting started.

It turns a sold design into a production order with a bill of materials, cutting list and operations, sends the files to saw and CNC machines, gives each station in the workshop its work order, and tracks how far each piece has progressed. Sales and planning see the status without walking into the workshop.

Yes, if that software makes the data available through an integration or an export. Production planning checks the intake and releases the order, and only then does it go to the workshop floor.

The app creates cutting lists and machining files in the format your saw and CNC machines read. Which machines and which software run on them we look at in the first step, because the format depends on that.

Per station, by scanning the code on the work order or tapping a tablet. That takes a few seconds per part and gives the status of each piece, without anyone having to ask.

A change after release goes back through production planning. The app shows which parts have already been cut or machined, so you know what the change costs and the workshop receives the new version.

Yes, if you want it to. Usable offcuts can be registered per material and used first when creating the cutting list. For optimising the cutting layout itself, the app can connect to cutting optimisation software.

Check that first. Industry packages for series furniture production do much of this work, and that may be enough if your furniture comes from a fixed range. Bespoke development makes sense when every piece is unique, when your design software doesn't connect to the package, or when the workshop works differently at each station.

No more wrong measurements in the workshop?

Tell us how you design and sell, which machines are in the workshop, and how an order currently moves from sales to the workshop. We will show you what the production order, the bill of materials and the status per piece of furniture look like.
