Custom animal registration software for a pet shop
Appfront builds software that helps pet shops and specialist pet stores keep the records for their animals as the law requires: for each animal the origin, the date of arrival, health and care, the sale with the buyer, and for dogs the microchip number and registration. With the till as the source of sales and the register always ready for inspection.
What is animal registration software for a pet shop?
Animal registration software keeps track, per animal or per group of animals, of what the law and your own due diligence require: where the animal comes from, when it arrived, what care and treatment it has received, whether it has been ill or has died, and when and to whom it was sold. For dogs, the microchip number and registration are added. The register is therefore complete at all times, and during an inspection you print it out rather than reconstructing it.
Without such a system, arrivals are kept in a notebook, sales are recorded in the till without the animal attached, and care lives in the head of whoever is working that day. During an inspection it turns out that the origin of a group of animals cannot be found, or that a sold animal still appears as present. And when a buyer returns with a sick animal, the question of what care it received from you cannot be answered.
We build custom software because record-keeping differs per animal species and per shop. You register dogs and cats individually; fish, birds and rodents often by group. Which data is mandatory differs per species and changes over time. The software should know those differences, use the till as the source of sales, and deliver the register in the form the inspector expects.
Animal or group as a record
Per individual animal or per group, the origin, arrival, characteristics, care and health, with photos and documents from the supplier.
Sales from the till
Sales come from the till and are linked to the animal: date, buyer and what was handed over. The animal drops out of the list of animals present.
Register for inspection
An overview of animals present, arrived, sold and deceased per period, in the form requested during an inspection.
How we build your animal registration software for a pet shop
We start with your record-keeping as it stands today and with what the law requires for your species. The structure of the register follows from that.
Which animals you sell, what must be registered for each species, how arrivals and sales are currently recorded, and what was asked at your last inspection.
Animals per individual or per group with origin, arrival, characteristics and documents, entry on tablet or phone at arrival, and daily care and health records.
Sales from the till linked to the animal, with buyer and date; for dogs, the microchip number and registration captured in the same step.
The register per period in the requested format, alerts for missing data, and the history per animal. After that, we take over the software's management.
What animal registration software for a pet shop concretely does
The components below appear in almost every pet shop. Which ones you need depends on the species you sell.
Animal record
Per individual or group, the origin, supplier, arrival, characteristics, photos and documents, with the history up to the sale.
Care and health
Per day or per event, what has been done: feeding, cleaning, treatment, vet visits, illness and death.
Arrival
Registration on receipt with supplier and transport details, on a tablet at the cage or aquarium.
Sales from the till
Sales linked to the animal, with buyer, date and accompanying documents; the animal leaves the active stock.
Microchip and registration
For dogs, the microchip number, registration and transfer to the buyer, recorded in the same step as the sale.
Inspection register
The overview per period of present, received, sold and deceased animals, in the format the inspector requires, with a notification when data is missing.
Who we build animal registration software for a pet shop for
The software is intended for shops where animal administration is a legal obligation that currently takes too much time or does not reconcile.
Pet specialist shops
Multiple animal species, from fish to rodents, each with different data. The register understands the differences and keeps everything reconciled.
Shops that sell dogs or cats
Per animal, with chip, registration and transfer to the buyer. The file per animal is what the law and the buyer ask for.
Traders and importers
Large numbers of animals per group, with origin and transport per consignment. The register per consignment and per group lets you trace the chain.
Chains with multiple shops
One register per shop, one overview for the organisation, and the same way of working everywhere. When one branch is inspected, everything is in order.

Why choose Appfront for your animal registration software for a pet shop?
An animal administration only reconciles when arrival, care and sales sit in the same file. That is what we build on.
Sales from the till
The till already knows what has been sold. We link that sale to the animal, so the register is accurate without duplicate entry.
The right data per species
What you record per animal and what you record per group, and which fields are mandatory, differs by species. The software knows that difference and enforces it.
The register the inspector asks for
Present, received, sold and deceased per period, in a single export. That is the reason to keep it, and it should be available in one click.
Security and privacy in animal registration software for a pet shop
The register contains data on buyers and suppliers. Access is controlled by role: the shop employee registers and sells, the administrator sees the register and the exports. Buyer data is kept for as long as the law and the guarantee require, and no longer.
Registrations are logged with user and time and are not changed retrospectively; a correction is a new registration referring to the original. During an inspection, it is possible to see what was recorded and when.
Frequently asked questions about animal registration software for a pet shop
Questions pet shops ask before getting started with this.
It keeps track, per animal or per group, of origin, arrival, care, health and sale, with the chip number and registration for dogs. The sale comes from the till and is attached to the animal. The register per period can be exported in one click for an inspection.
That depends on the species and on the rules that apply to commercial sale, and those rules change. At the start we establish per species what is mandatory and what you wish to know yourself, and the software enforces the mandatory fields. If you are unsure about a specific obligation, we refer you to the supervisory authority, not to the software.
Yes. Species that cannot be told apart individually are registered per group with number, origin and arrival, and sales are deducted by the number from that group. Dogs and cats are registered per animal. Both can sit in the same register.
From the till. When an animal is sold, the staff member selects the animal or group, and the sale is linked to it with date and buyer. The animal drops off the current stock list, and the buyer receives the documents that go with the species.
On arrival you record the microchip number and registration, and on sale the transfer to the buyer, in the same step as the sale. That way you can see for each dog where it came from and who it went to.
Yes, as an export per period: present, arrived, sold and deceased, with the origin for each animal or group. If any data is missing, the software flags it before the inspection, not during.
Yes, that is the starting point. The sale comes from the till you already use; the software adds the animal to it and keeps the register. Stock of food and supplies stays in the till; the software looks after the animals.
