Does Appfront work in Alkmaar?
Yes. A number of our clients are based in Alkmaar, West Friesland and the wider North Kennemerland region: plant breeders and agri-tech companies in the Seed Valley, manufacturing, service organisations, healthcare institutions around NoordWest, and wholesalers in food and agri. Our office is in Amsterdam (about three quarters of an hour's drive via the A9, or a direct train from Amsterdam Centraal), and we regularly visit for introductions, sprint reviews and on-site sessions. The day-to-day development work is done remotely from Amsterdam, in close alignment with your team.
Do you have experience with agri-tech and plant breeding in West Friesland?
We work for and with companies across the wider Seed Valley and agri supply chain around Alkmaar, Enkhuizen and Andijk. Apps for trial field registration, variety administration, variety scan-and-view tools, B2B portals for trade partners and mobile tools for breeders are examples that recur in projects like these. We integrate with breeding software, LIMS, ERP and GS1 feeds, and take into account the specific regulations on plant varieties, identification and export certification. Ties in with our
agri-food software approach.
Do you also build field service apps for service organisations?
Yes.
Field service apps for service technicians, fitters and field engineers are one of our core offerings, with work order flows, customer locations, material scanning, signatures and offline-first synchronisation. They are often integrated with ERP and service management software. For industrial service organisations in the region (such as suppliers to Royal Reesink, Boskalis branches and larger manufacturers), we have the architecture and delivery model to get this type of app into production on time.
Do you also build healthcare apps? How do you handle NEN 7510 and GDPR?
Yes. We build apps for hospitals, clinics, mental health providers and home care organisations: staff rostering, patient engagement, mobile record access, intake flows and communication between specialist and GP. NEN 7510, GDPR and EU data residency are starting points of the design, not something added "later on" at the end of the project. In practice, that means pseudonymisation where possible, audit trails, MFA, encryption at rest and in transit, and clear processing records. We are not an accredited healthcare supplier; for compliance translation, we work alongside your own security or compliance officer.
Do you also work with manufacturing and family businesses in North Kennemerland?
Yes. We build production and operator apps for manufacturers and machine builders: OEE dashboards, quality control, maintenance, production logging and mobile work order flows, often combined with MES and ERP integrations. We work with SMEs as well as larger family-owned businesses taking digitalisation seriously. We understand the realities of the shop floor: rugged devices, dust, noise and operators who have mastered their work for years. A new app should help them, not slow them down.
Do you travel to Alkmaar or to our office?
Yes. For agri, manufacturing, healthcare and field service projects, on-site work is often necessary: observing how a breeder works through a trial field, how an operator runs a production line, how a nurse opens a record, or how a service technician closes a work order in a shed. We actively plan these sessions into the discovery and build phases. We arrange vendor onboarding, passes and NDAs through your HR or security department. Location of your choice: Alkmaar, West Friesland, Amsterdam or online.
Do you build for iOS, Android or cross-platform?
All three. For performance-critical apps or where hardware access matters (rugged handhelds, NFC, biometrics, camera scanning in trial fields), we often choose
native (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android). For customer portals, B2B ordering apps and internal tools, cross-platform via React Native or Flutter is often more efficient. We advise on use-case fit, not on what happens to suit us.
What determines the cost of an app project?
Mainly scope (one platform or both, how many features), integration complexity (ERP, MES, LIMS, breeding software, EHR integration), data maturity (are your APIs already available?), user context (consumer, operator, breeder, nurse, field service technician) and compliance requirements (NEN 7510, GDPR, plant variety administration, EU data residency, audit trails). We work with sprint budgets and, after a short discovery phase, provide a concrete price for the entire project or for the first phase, so you are not faced with surprises.
Who owns the code, and is there lock-in to Appfront?
The code belongs to you. We work in your own Git repository, backend infrastructure runs in your own cloud account (AWS, Azure or GCP, EU regions), and the apps are published under your own App Store Connect and Google Play accounts. You can take it over, bring in another partner or continue in-house whenever you choose. No hidden contracts, no exclusive service layer.
How does a project with Appfront begin?
A free 30-minute introductory call in which we discuss the problem you want to solve, which systems are in place and what a sensible first step would be. This is followed by a paid discovery phase of a few days with a concrete plan, or straight into a first build sprint if the use case is clear. Location of your choice: at your premises in Alkmaar, at your production, field or care site in West Friesland, at our office in Amsterdam, or online.
Do you also work in other cities?
Yes. We work from Amsterdam for clients across the Netherlands; you can find an overview of our location pages on
the locations page. For the software layer beneath your apps, please see our
software developer Alkmaar page. Our way of working remains the same: hybrid, with on-site sessions where they add value.
