Custom software for engineering firms' survey reports

Appfront builds software for engineering and consultancy firms that want to streamline the production of survey reports in the office. Reports are assembled from fixed building blocks and standard texts that the firm manages itself. Every report goes through review and sign-off, and who checked what is recorded. And when a new survey comes in, you can see which earlier surveys have been carried out on or near the site. We describe the fieldwork and on-site assembly on the app page.

What is survey report software for engineering firms?

An engineering firm produces many survey reports that look alike: a foundation survey, a building physics advice, a noise study or an inspection report. Each report has a fixed structure, standard texts, fieldwork results or calculations, and a conclusion. Before it goes to the client, a colleague checks it, and the firm needs to be able to show that this happened.

In practice, a report is made by copying an earlier one and adapting it. A standard text that has been improved appears in one report but not in another. Review happens by email with comments in the margin, and nobody knows which version went to the client. And anyone starting a new survey does not know that a colleague surveyed the same site years earlier.

We build custom solutions because firms differ: which types of survey they do, how reports are structured, how review works, what your quality system requires, and which systems you use. The building blocks and working method come from your own firm; the software ensures they are used consistently everywhere.

From fixed building blocks

Reports assembled from building blocks and standard texts that the firm manages itself, with versions.

Review and sign-off

Every report goes through review and sign-off, with a record of who checked what.

Earlier surveys found

For a new survey, the earlier surveys on or near the site, drawn from your own archive.

How we build your survey report software for engineering firms

We start with your reports: which types you produce, how they are structured, where the standard texts come from, and how review and issue work today. If your fieldworkers already use the app or will be given it, fieldwork and results come from there. In the office, the report is then only supplemented, checked and signed off.

1
Mapping your reports

Your survey types, structure, texts, review and systems.

2
Building blocks and templates

Templates and standard texts per type of survey, with versions.

3
Review and sign-off

Review by a second person, sign-off and issue.

4
Archive and management

Earlier surveys per site, hours, and ongoing management.

What survey report software for engineering firms actually does

The components below feature in almost every engineering firm. Which ones you need depends on your surveys.

Projects

Client, site and type of survey.

Building blocks

Standard texts with versions.

Outcomes

From the app or other sources.

Review

Checking by a second person.

Release

With version number to the client.

Archive

Earlier investigations on site.

Who we build software for: engineering consultancy investigation reports

The software is designed for firms that produce many similar reports.

Foundations

Many reports with the same structure. The building blocks are the core.

Building physics

Calculations and advice. Review matters most.

Soil and environment

Investigation at known locations. The archive is what is needed.

Structural engineers

Reports with responsibility. Sign-off is the core.

Why choose Appfront for your engineering consultancy investigation report software?

A report built from a copy of an earlier report carries that report's errors with it. We build on that: reports from fixed building blocks, recorded review and sign-off, and earlier investigations at the location being found.

Consistent everywhere

Improved texts in every new report.

Demonstrably checked

Review and sign-off recorded.

Nothing duplicated

Earlier investigation at the location found.

Security and privacy in engineering consultancy investigation report software

The software holds reports, client data and investigation results. Access is set up by role and by project, and a client sees only their own reports in a portal.

The software runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage, daily back-ups and sign-in with a second factor. Signed-off reports are no longer changed, only superseded by a new version.

Frequently asked questions about engineering consultancy investigation report software

Questions engineering consultancies ask before they begin.

It builds reports from fixed building blocks and standard texts, processes fieldwork results, records review and sign-off, issues reports with a version number, and shows earlier investigations on or near the location when a new investigation begins.

The app is for fieldwork: working offline, photos at the measuring point, and the report in your template. This software is for the office: managing the building blocks, review and sign-off, issue, the archive and the hours.

Your own firm. The software gives the building blocks an owner and a version. An improved text is used in new reports, and for an older report you can see which version it contains.

A report goes to a colleague for review, with comments in the report itself. After processing, someone authorised to do so signs it off. Who checked what and when is recorded, so you can show it.

Each investigation is recorded on the map at its location. For a new investigation, the software shows earlier investigations at or near that location from your own archive.

Yes, provided it has an interface. Projects and clients come from the project administration, and hours per report can be sent back.

Check that first. Document management stores reports and versions, but it usually doesn't assemble them from building blocks or handle review and approval per report. Custom software makes sense if you produce many similar reports and want to streamline how they are assembled and checked.
