Custom insurance software development for insurers & intermediaries.

Custom software for the insurance sector — policy administration, claims flows, customer portals and distribution platforms. For insurance advisers, delegated authority organisations, brokers, MGAs and direct writers who need more than an off-the-shelf package offers.

Policy administrationClaims flowWft-compliantInsurer integrations

The insurance sector has a rhythm of its own.

Policies, claims, premiums, commissions and compliance — the processes in an insurance organisation are complex, heavily regulated and full of exceptions. The Wft, IDD, Solvency II, DNB supervision and Wwft obligations lay a layer of rules over every flow you build. The software has to fit around them, not the other way round.

We build custom software for insurers, delegated authority organisations, brokers and specialist intermediaries. Not a full replacement of a large back-office package such as Anva or Voogd & Voogd — but the smart layer on top, the portal, the calculator or the product line that sets your brand apart.

Our clients are insurance advisers and service providers, delegated authority organisations, claims handlers, brokers, reinsurers, direct writers, Managing General Agents, loss adjusters and appraisers, and pension and annuity insurers. Each role has its own IT landscape and its own pressure from the regulator. What keeps coming up: standard packages such as Anva, FAA, Faster Forward, CCS, Solid Forte, Voogd & Voogd or NCCW cover the broad needs, but leave gaps exactly where your organisation sets itself apart — the niche product line, the direct-writer channel, the partner portal or the claims experience for the end customer.

Three flavours of software for the insurance sector.

What we build depends on your role in the chain and what you're missing today. In the first conversation we'll advise which form suits your situation.

Compact project · fixed sprint budget

Customer portal or customer app

Your policyholders can view policies, report claims with photos, track payments and submit changes. It works alongside your existing back office, relieves your customer service team and gives your brand its own digital face towards the end customer.

What your organisation gets at the end.

A production-ready insurance application plus everything your team needs to manage, audit and extend it yourself.

  • Production and acceptance environmentsTwo separate environments in your cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure) or with us, with isolated test data so customer data never leaks into staging.
  • Full codebase and architecture documentationSource code, build instructions, data model and infrastructure overview. Your IT department or another provider can take it over whenever you wish.
  • Audit log and compliance reportingWho changed which policy, when a claim was assessed, which user logged in. Standard export to your GRC tooling, ready for DNB and AFM investigations.
  • Insurer and partner integrationsEDI file exchange with insurers, REST integrations with your core system (Anva, CCS, Faster Forward, FAA), iDIN authentication and KvK (Chamber of Commerce) validation.
  • Training for administrators and end usersWorkshops for your administration team, claims handlers and field staff, plus a short guide for your end customers or partners.
  • Ongoing management (optional)Security patches, monitoring, backups and regular further development. Fixed monthly price, with four response-time tiers depending on your risk appetite.

When custom is the right choice.

Standard packages such as Anva, FAA, Faster Forward, CCS, Solid Forte, Voogd & Voogd or NCCW cover the vast majority of mid-office and back-office administration perfectly well. We step in when the standard no longer fits, and we see the same patterns every time.

Specific product line

Cyber, parametric or niche

You are launching a product that doesn't exist in standard packages, such as cyber insurance, parametric crop or weather cover, expat pensions or art collection cover. The policy structure and premium formula are unique, so the software has to be unique too.

Direct writer

Online sign-up without intermediaries

You want your end customers to take out, manage and claim on policies themselves through your own brand, with no adviser or broker between you and the consumer. A consumer app or portal with a conversion-optimised flow.

Claims portal

Claims flow with photos, expert and status

Customers report damage with photos, and the system automatically sets a reserve, schedules an expert, attaches the valuation report and keeps the customer informed. Much faster than emailing and phoning, and provably logged for the regulator.

Delegated authority and multi-insurer

Real-time comparison and routing

For managing agents and brokers: a single environment where you compare premiums and terms from multiple insurers, route the policy to the right insurer and feed claims handling back to your own administration.

Modules we typically build or integrate.

An insurance application is rarely a single screen with a single purpose. Under the hood is a set of modules that feed each other. Which ones you need depends on your role, as not every module is relevant to everyone. Below are the building blocks we most often deliver or connect to an existing core system.

Administration

Policy administration and client file

A data model that faithfully records policies, coverages, premiums, renewals and amendments. Client file with communication history, advice recording in line with IDD and commission flows that comply with the Wft licence.

Claims

Claims flow from intake to payout

Claims intake with photo and description, automatic reserving, expert routing, valuation reporting, an approval flow and payout via SEPA. Status updates to the customer, and provable logging for the regulator and reinsurer.

Self-service

Customer portal and customer app

End customers see their policies, report claims, manage premium payments, make changes and ask your service team questions. Access via iDIN or DigiD, branded in your look and feel, designed mobile-first for consumers or businesses depending on your target group.

Distribution

Agent and partner portal

For sub-agents, authorised representatives or franchise partners: building quotes, taking out policies, tracking commission, consulting product information and generating commercial documents. Role-based access and multi-tenant white-labelling per partner brand.

Underwriting

Premium and risk calculator with rules engine

A configurable rules engine for premium calculation, cover determination and underwriting criteria. Version history means a policy can always be traced back to the rules that applied at the time it was taken out, which is essential in claims disputes and supervisory audits.

Output

Document generation

Policy schedules, terms and conditions appendices, claims reports, annual statements and correspondence, all generated automatically with version management and demonstrable retention periods. PDF/A for the archive, standard PDF for customer communication, and HTML for the portal.

Identity

Identification and validation

iDIN for consumer identification, DigiD where public-law integrations are involved, KvK validation for business customers, BSN integration where relevant, and single sign-on via Azure AD, Google Workspace or Auth0 for your internal and partner users.

Payments

Premium and claims payments

SEPA direct debit for recurring premiums, refunds when a policy is terminated, iDEAL for one-off payments and invoice flows for business customers. Reconciliation with your accounting system and automatic escalation of payment arrears according to your collections policy.

Integrations

Insurer and reinsurer integrations

EDI file exchange with insurers (Solv-NL, ANVA integrations), REST integrations where these exist, and flat-file exchange for whatever has not yet been modernised. Reinsurer reporting in the format your treaty prescribes. See also our page on API integrations.

Compliance

AML, Wwft and sanctions list screening

UBO checks, PEP screening and sanctions list checks at customer acceptance and at every significant change. Hits are routed to a manual review flow with an audit trail. Includes the retention periods that DNB and the AFM apply, and export to your GRC tooling.

How an insurance software project works.

1

Introduction and scope

A conversation in which we understand which product line or flow you are digitising, which insurers and core systems need to be connected, and which Wft, IDD or Solvency II requirements apply. We also discuss which standard packages you currently use and what we will integrate with rather than replace.

2

Discovery with domain experts

A workshop with your underwriters, claims handlers, IT and compliance. We map out the policy lifecycle, the claims flow and the exceptions. At the end: a validated scope, an initial screen flow and clarity on the rules engine.

3

Building in sprints with demonstrable progress

Every two weeks a working build that you and your underwriters can test. We integrate early with test insurers and test payment providers so integration risks don't blow up at the end. The first tier goes live after a few sprints; the full product line takes a project of several sprints.

4

Pilot, audit and rollout

Penetration test, DPIA and a formal audit round before production. Phased rollout: first a pilot portfolio, then scaling up. After that, ongoing maintenance with security patches, monitoring and further development for new product variants or regulatory requirements.

Frequently asked questions about insurance software.

What insurers, delegated authority organisations and brokers usually want to know before we start.

Will you replace our existing package such as Anva, Voogd & Voogd or CCS?
For a complete back-office replacement of a large off-the-shelf vendor, custom software is usually not the right route — those packages are mature and cover the generic work well. What we do build is the layer on top, the portal, the product line or the claims flow that sets your brand apart, and we connect it to your existing core system via REST or file exchange. Replacing the core system is possible in rare cases — for example for a direct writer or a specific product line for which no suitable package exists.
How do you handle Wft, IDD and Solvency II compliance?
From the start we work with your compliance officer and build audit trails, advice documentation and POG checks into the flow itself, not as a separate bolt-on. We run a DPIA on every larger project, use encryption in transit and at rest, and for claims flows we provide demonstrable advice logging in line with the IDD. For Solvency II, we make sure data exports to your actuarial tooling are correct in format and frequency.
Can you integrate with our insurer systems and partners?
Yes. We work with EDI file exchange (Solv-NL, ANVA integrations), REST APIs from insurers that offer them, and flat-file exchange where nothing else exists. We also use iDIN for authentication, the KvK (Dutch Chamber of Commerce) for business validation, BSN integrations via DigiD, and SEPA direct debit via payment providers. See also our page on smart API integrations.
What about Wwft, sanctions list screening and money laundering?
For customer acceptance and policy changes, we build in UBO checks, PEP screening and sanctions list checks as standard via a specialist provider (for example Refinitiv World-Check, Dow Jones or a Dutch provider). Hits are logged, routed to a manual review flow and retained for as long as the regulator requires. The audit log covers everything a DNB or AFM investigation needs.
How does a claims flow with photo, assessor and payout work in your approach?
The customer reports a claim in the app or portal with photos and a description. The system categorises it, automatically sets an initial reserve based on your claims status, and determines whether an assessor is needed. When an assessor visits, the scheduling is synchronised, the assessment report is fed back and, once approved, the payout is made via SEPA. The customer can see the status at all times. For parametric cover, the payout can be fully automatic.
What determines the cost of custom insurance software?
The biggest cost drivers are the number of product variants, the complexity of your rules engine, the number of external integrations (insurers, payment, identification) and your compliance context (DNB supervision makes audit requirements stricter and therefore the build heavier). A customer portal is generally considerably lighter than a direct-writer platform with its own acceptance and claims flow. We only give an honest indication after the scoping session — we have a dedicated page on custom software costs that explains the logic.
How long until we can go live with a first tier?
For a well-defined portal or a focused product line, a first working version can be live within a few sprints, often already with a real integration to your core system. A full direct-writer platform with its own acceptance, claims flow and reinsurer integration is a multi-sprint programme, with a pilot portfolio before scaling up.
Do you work with our IT department and existing suppliers?
Almost always. Your IT team provides the connection to core systems, and our team builds the new application and the integrations. In the final sprints we hand over knowledge so your own team can manage it, or we continue the management as an enterprise software engagement with SLA and monitoring.
