What is the difference between this page and /software-laten-maken?
Our general
custom software development page describes our national practice: sectors, way of working and technical approach. This page goes deeper into the Utrecht side: the Rabobank environment, ASR, UMC Utrecht under NEN 7510, Utrecht municipality with Common Ground, UU/HU with SURFconext and the scale-up scene. Just starting to explore? The general page is a handier starting point. Specifically looking for someone who knows the Utrecht compliance and sector context? This page is more relevant.
Does Appfront work for Utrecht clients even though you have no office there?
Yes. A large share of our clients are based in Utrecht and the surrounding region: banking, insurance, healthcare, education, the public sector and the Utrecht scale-up scene around DGG, ITSU and Beeyond. Our office is in Amsterdam (roughly 25 minutes by intercity train, 30 minutes via the A2). We visit regularly for on-site sessions; day-to-day development work is done remotely.
Do you have experience with Rabobank or ASR?
We work for clients within the Rabobank and ASR ecosystem and are familiar with the requirements that apply in those environments: strict change procedures, external penetration testing rounds, record-level audit trails, strong authentication and EU-only data. We share specific project references under NDA during an introductory meeting, as that information doesn't belong on a public page.
Do you build software for UMC Utrecht under NEN 7510?
Yes. For clients in the UMC ecosystem and wider healthcare organisations, we deliver software designed to be
NEN 7510-compliant. GDPR and, where relevant, MDR requirements are taken into account from the first sprint. We work within your ISMS and align with your audit cycle.
Do you work to Common Ground for Utrecht municipality?
Yes. We build to Common Ground principles (separated data, services and interaction) and work in a way that suits public tenders. We can take part in European tenders as prime or subcontractor. Open standards, vendor independence, EU data residency, DigiD and eHerkenning integration, and integrations with Open Zaak or comparable components are all routine work for us.
Which stacks do you build for Utrecht projects?
Front-end: React, Vue or Svelte. Back-end: Node, Python or .NET, whichever fits your existing stack. For mobile: native iOS (Swift), native Android (Kotlin) or cross-platform (React Native, Flutter). For identity: open standards (OAuth 2 with PKCE, OpenID Connect, SAML, SURFconext, eIDAS). We advise on what fits the use case rather than pushing a fixed preference.
Do you also build mobile apps and web apps alongside desktop software?
Yes. For many Utrecht clients we build a web app in parallel with a mobile app and a back-office environment, for example a banking portal for customers, a claims app for use on the go, and an internal workflow application. See our sister pages on
web app development Utrecht and
app development Utrecht.
What determines the cost of a software project?
Mainly scope (modules, roles and flows), integration complexity (core banking, policy administration, EHR, identity, payments), data maturity and compliance requirements (NEN 7510, ISAE, DigiD, eIDAS, Common Ground, external audits). We work with sprint budgets and, after a short discovery phase, give you a concrete price for the first phase so there are no surprises.
Who owns the code and the cloud environment, and is there lock-in to Appfront?
The code goes into your own Git repository. Back-end infrastructure runs in your own AWS, Azure or GCP account (EU regions). Domains, certificates, App Store Connect and Play Console (where mobile is relevant) are registered in your name. You can take it over, bring in another party or bring it in-house whenever you choose. No hidden contracts, no exclusive service layer.
How does a software project for Utrecht start with Appfront?
With a no-obligation introductory conversation in which we go through the problem you want to solve, which systems are in place and what a sensible first step would be. After that, either a paid discovery phase with a concrete plan, or a first build sprint straight away if the use case is clear. Location of your choice: at your premises in Utrecht (Croeselaan, Archimedeslaan, UMC, Stadskantoor or Hoog Catharijne), at our office in Amsterdam, or online.
