Custom Xedule integration development

Appfront builds integrations with Xedule, the timetabling software for education. Xedule can be connected via web services, and has standard integrations with, among others, Somtoday. Where that doesn't cover your needs, we build the integration: timetables and changes into your own app, learning environment or information screens, group and teacher data from your own systems, and room and teacher occupancy into your dashboard.

What is a Xedule integration?

Xedule is timetabling software for education, from primary schools to universities. Timetablers use it to plan lessons, groups, teachers and rooms, and the package supports both classroom-based and modular education. Xedule can be connected via web services, and for some systems, such as Somtoday, a standard integration exists. For your own apps and systems, a custom integration is needed.

Without an integration, the timetable lives in Xedule and the standard view, but not in the app students already use. A timetable change arrives by email or on a screen in the hall, and the student stands outside a closed room. Groups are created in the student tracking system and again for the timetable. And anyone who wants to know how rooms and teachers are deployed pulls it from exports.

We build custom software because the integration has to fit your institution: which app, learning environment or screens you use, which system is the source for groups and teachers, how changes are reported, and which figures you want to see. We look at which data Xedule's web services offer in the first step, together with you and, where necessary, with Xedule.

Timetable where students look

Timetables per student, group, teacher and room in your own app, learning environment or on screens.

Changes straight through

A timetable change reaches the people concerned immediately, with a notification.

Occupancy at a glance

Room occupancy and teacher deployment shown on your own dashboard.

How we build your Xedule integration

We start with your systems: which ones you use alongside Xedule, where students and teachers look, and where information is currently lost.

1
Mapping systems and data flows

Your app, learning environment, screens, student information system and dashboard.

2
Build integration

Xedule's web services connected to your systems, for timetables, changes and groups.

3
Testing and monitoring

Testing with a real timetable week, error monitoring, and a log for every message.

4
Go-live and management

Going live at the start of a period, and maintenance when Xedule or your systems are updated.

What a Xedule integration actually does

The components below come up in almost every Xedule integration. Which ones you need depends on your institution.

Rostering

Timetables per student, group, teacher and room.

Changes

Timetable changes with a notification to those concerned.

Groups

Groups, students and teachers from your own systems.

Screens

Today's timetable on information screens.

Learning environment

Lessons from the timetable linked to the right course.

Dashboard

Room occupancy and teacher deployment on your dashboard.

Who we build Xedule integrations for

The integration is intended for education institutions that use Xedule alongside their own systems.

Vocational colleges (mbo)

Many groups and changing rooms. Changes are the core.

Universities of applied sciences

Modular education with choices. The timetable per student matters most.

Secondary schools

A custom app for pupils. The timetable in that app is what is needed.

Boards with multiple schools

Deployment across locations. Occupancy is the core.

Technology and integrations

This page covers integrations with Xedule. For custom timetabling software, see our page on timetabling software for education; for a student records system, our page on a Somtoday integration; and for a learning environment, our page on custom LMS software. You can read about how we work under building software.

Why Appfront for your Xedule integration?

A timetable change that does not arrive sends a group to a closed room. We build on that: the timetable students already check, changes that come through immediately, and occupancy without exports.

One place for the student

The timetable sits in the app already in use.

Changes flagged on time

A change reaches the people concerned straight away.

Occupancy at a glance

Rooms and teachers without exports.

Security and privacy in a Xedule integration

The integration processes data about students, teachers and groups, including personal data of minors. Access credentials are stored encrypted and used only by the integration, with only the permissions that are required.

The integration runs in a European data centre or in your own environment, with encrypted storage, daily back-ups and a log of every message.

Frequently asked questions about a Xedule integration

Questions educational institutions ask before starting with this.

Xedule is timetabling software for education, from primary schools to universities of applied sciences. Timetablers use it to plan lessons, groups, teachers and rooms, for classroom-based and modular education. Alongside the timetable, the package has modules for, among other things, staff deployment and education planning.

Yes, including with Somtoday, and Xedule can be integrated via web services. A standard integration is often sufficient. A custom integration is needed for your own app, learning environment, screens or dashboard that aren't on the standard list.

Yes. A change is passed on to the app or screens, with a notification to the students and teachers it affects, so it reaches them before the lesson starts. You decide which changes trigger a notification, such as a different room or a cancelled lesson, so students aren't overloaded.

Yes, provided that system has an interface. Groups, students and teachers are then created once and kept consistent across the timetable and the other systems.

Yes. Today's timetable and room changes per location can be shown on screens around the school, updated as soon as anything changes. For each screen you choose what is shown: a location, a department or a floor.

The integration reports the problem and records what went wrong. The message is retried or set aside for review. An overview shows which messages have been processed, which are waiting and which need attention.

For institutions with their own app, learning environment, screens or dashboard alongside Xedule, where the timetable doesn't currently reach. If you only use standard packages, the standard integration is often enough.
