Custom HDN integration development
The Hypotheken Data Netwerk (HDN) is the messaging standard of the Dutch mortgage chain: advisers, service providers, lenders, valuers and insurers use it to exchange applications, quotes, status updates and file documents. If you have your own software, such as an advice platform, an underwriting system or a servicer environment, you don't want to retype those messages. Appfront builds the integration between your system and the HDN platform: applications out, quotes and status in, documents in the right place, and the integration kept up to date with every new version of the standard.
What is an integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk?
An HDN integration connects your own software to the platform the mortgage chain communicates over. HDN is a cooperative association of parties in the chain and manages the messaging standard: an application goes to the lender as a message, the quote comes back as a message, status updates follow the application through the process, and file documents are exchanged as attachments. The integration converts the data in your system into those messages, checks them against the standard before they are sent, and processes what comes back in your own screens.
Without an integration, applications are entered in an external package that is connected to HDN, and then retyped into your own system. A quote arrives as a PDF and is attached to the file by hand. A status update is missed because nobody had the other package open. And every year, when HDN updates the standard, someone has to work out which fields have changed.
We build custom because your place in the chain and your system determine which messages you need. An advisory chain sends applications and receives quotes, a lender does the reverse, a servicer works with changes and documents, and a valuation platform with valuation requests. Connecting to the HDN platform and getting certified is handled through HDN itself; the integration makes sure your system builds, sends and processes the messages correctly.

How we build your integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk
We start with your place in the chain: which messages you send and receive, which system holds the data and what is currently done by hand. Then we build the first integration, usually the application message with validation, because that is where most errors arise. You test in HDN's test environment and then go live with one or two parties. Quotes, status updates and documents follow once that runs well. After that, we keep the integration up to date whenever HDN updates the standard.

What an integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk actually does
The components below appear in almost every HDN integration. Which ones you need depends on your role in the chain and on your system.
Application
Built from your data.
Validation
Against the current standard.
Quote
Processed in your file.
Status
Notification on the file.
Documents
Attachments in the right place.
Versions
Standard update applied.
Who we build an integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk for
The integration is intended for parties in the mortgage chain that have their own software and currently run it alongside an external package. The more applications you handle per month, the more it saves.
Advisory chains
Applications from the advice platform.
Lenders
Applications in underwriting.
Servicers
Changes and documents.
Suppliers
HDN in your own package.
Technology and integrations
This page is about connecting to HDN. For an environment where customers and advisers work together, see our page on a mortgage portal; for valuations, our page on the NWWI integration; and for linking multiple systems, our page on middleware. You can read about our approach on building software.
Why Appfront for your integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk?
An application that is entered twice, a quote that sits in a mailbox as a PDF, or a standard update that takes a week to figure out costs a mortgage organisation time and leads to errors in files. That is what we build on: messages sent straight from and into your own system, validated before they go out, and an integration that keeps pace with the standard.

Security and privacy for an integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk
HDN messages contain customers' personal and financial data. The integration sends only the fields the message requires, access is set up per role, and every exchange is logged with time, party and result. For the processing, we sign a data processing agreement with you.
The integration runs in a European data centre, with encrypted connections and storage. Certificates and keys for the HDN platform are kept secure and are not visible to users of your system.
Frequently asked questions about an integration with the Hypotheken Data Netwerk
Questions that IT managers and operations leads in the mortgage chain ask before they get started.
The Hypotheken Data Netwerk (Dutch Mortgage Data Network) is a cooperative association of parties in the mortgage chain that maintains a message standard and a platform. Applications, quotes, status updates and case documents are exchanged over it between advisers, service providers, lenders and other parties.
It converts data from your own system into HDN messages, checks them against the standard, sends them, and processes the messages that come back, such as quotes and status updates, into your own file.
Connecting to the platform and certifying messages go through HDN itself. What that requires depends on your role in the chain; we look at that in the first step. The integration takes care of the technical side on your end.
HDN releases a new version of the standard every year. We implement the changes in the integration and test them in the test environment, so your messages stay compliant.
Yes. Documents that belong to an application are sent as attachments and end up in the right place in the file at the receiving party. Documents you receive are linked to your own file.
Then you can see in the log which message it was and which field failed. You fix it in your own system and send it again, without everything else getting held up.
For organisations with their own software and dozens of applications or more per month. For a small firm, advice software that is already connected to HDN is usually enough.
Your system connected directly to HDN?
