Custom sovereign AI solution development

A sovereign AI solution runs on European infrastructure and keeps your data and models under EU jurisdiction. Appfront develops AI applications that align with the GDPR and the EU AI Act, without sending your data to non-European AI clouds. We build the application, select suitable open models and set everything up so that it falls under European law.

What is sovereign AI?

Sovereign AI is about where your AI runs and which jurisdiction applies to it. The major AI clouds are American and fall under the US CLOUD Act; your data and prompts are processed there and sometimes retained. A sovereign AI solution runs on EU-based infrastructure and keeps processing within European jurisdiction.

This fits a growing regulatory framework: the GDPR, the EU AI Act and initiatives around European digital sovereignty such as Gaia-X. Appfront builds the AI application around open models on EU infrastructure, so you can innovate without giving up control over your data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between private AI and sovereign AI?
Private AI is about running AI on infrastructure you control; sovereign AI places the emphasis on jurisdiction: EU-based and under European law. In practice the two often overlap; we discuss which emphasis suits your requirements.
What does the EU AI Act mean for my application?
The EU AI Act classifies AI applications by risk and attaches obligations to each category. We take that classification into account in the design, but you should agree the final legal assessment with your own lawyers.
Does this really run entirely in Europe?
That is the starting point: we run the models and processing on EU-based infrastructure. We do not use non-European AI clouds unless you deliberately choose to.
Which models do you use?
Open language models that can run on European infrastructure. The choice depends on your task and quality requirements.
Is sovereign AI less powerful than the major AI clouds?
Open models have improved considerably in recent years and are excellent for many tasks. For some very demanding tasks there may be a trade-off; we will be honest with you about that, rather than promising that everything is equal.
Can you make an existing AI application sovereign?
Often, yes. We assess which components currently run outside the EU and draw up a plan to move them to sovereign infrastructure.
