Custom app for drawing revisions on the construction site
Appfront builds apps that keep site managers, subcontractors and inspectors on site working from the current revision of a drawing at all times. A QR code on the printed drawing shows whether it is still valid. Comments and questions go back to the architect's office with a photo and the location on the drawing. We describe the register and issuing from the office on the software page; this page is about the app for the construction site.
What is an app for drawing revisions on the construction site?
During construction, an architectural practice regularly issues new revisions of drawings. The register in the office shows which revision applies. On site, a printed drawing hangs in the site cabin, and it may already be two revisions out of date. A subcontractor works from a PDF in an email from last month. Work is then carried out to a drawing that is no longer valid, and this only comes to light when something has gone wrong.
The register and issuing from the office solve half of the problem. The other half is the site: the site manager must be able to see, at the moment it matters, whether the drawing in hand is still valid and what has changed in the new revision. And if there is a question about a detail on site, it must reach the practice with a photo and the location on the drawing, not in a phone call that nobody records.
We build custom solutions because the app has to fit your practice and your projects: which drawing register you use, how revisions are issued, who works with drawings on site, and how questions are handled today. The app works on the phone and tablet of the site manager and subcontractor, even without signal in a basement or on a floor without a network.
Current revision on the phone
Drawings for each project with the current revision always shown, and a notification when a new revision is issued.
Printed copies checked
A QR code on the printed drawing shows whether it is still valid, or whether a newer version exists.
Questions with photo and location
Comments and questions with a photo and the location on the drawing, sent back to the office.
How we build your app for drawing revisions on the construction site
We start with a project: which drawings, how revisions are issued, who works with them on site, and where things go wrong.
Your drawing register, issuing process, and who works with drawings on site.
The current revision for each project, with notifications and a summary of what has changed.
QR codes on prints, and comments with a photo and the location on the drawing.
Integration with the register, working offline, and ongoing management.
What an app for drawing revisions on the construction site actually does
The components below feature in almost every practice with projects under construction. Which ones you need depends on how you work.
Drawings
Drawings for each project with the current revision.
New revision
A notification showing what has changed in the new revision.
QR on the print
Scan to check whether a printed drawing is still valid.
Comments
Questions with a photo and the location on the drawing.
Receipt
Confirmation by site manager or subcontractor.
No signal
Drawings available without a network connection.
Who we build an app for drawing revisions on the construction site for
The app is intended for practices and builders who want the site to work from the correct revision.
Architecture firms
Many revisions during construction. The current revision is the core.
Contractors
Site managers across multiple projects. Notifications for revisions matter most.
Subcontractors
Working from drawings produced by others. Checking prints is what is needed.
Supervisors
Supervision of construction. Comments with photos are the core.

Why choose Appfront for your drawing revision app on site?
A wall built to an outdated revision has to come down. That is where we come in: the current revision used on site, prints you can check, and questions that reach the office with a photo.
Correct revision
The site sees what applies in the office.
No outdated prints
A scan tells you whether the print is still valid.
Questions recorded
With a photo and location, not lost in a phone call.
Security and privacy for a drawing revision app on site
The app holds project drawings, often confidential to both the client and the practice. Access is set per project and per role: a subcontractor only sees the drawings for their own work.
The app runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily back-ups. Drawings are available on the device without a connection, and are updated as soon as there is one.
Frequently asked questions about a drawing revision app on site
Questions architecture practices and contractors ask before getting started.
It shows the drawings for each project with the current revision always displayed, alerts you to new revisions with a summary of what has changed, lets you check with a QR code whether a print is still valid, and sends comments with a photo and location on the drawing to the office.
That software is for the office: the register, revisions, issuing and comparison. This app is for the site: seeing the current revision, checking prints and raising questions. The two work together with the same register.
Every printed drawing carries a QR code. Scanning it shows whether that revision is still current, or whether a newer one exists, along with what has changed.
Yes. Drawings for the project are stored on the device, and comments are sent as soon as there is a connection.
Yes, with access to the drawings for their own work. They confirm receipt of a new revision, so the office knows who has seen it.
Yes, provided that register has an interface. A new revision in the register appears straight away in the app, and comments from the site are returned to the drawing.
Check that first. There are document platforms for construction, and they are sufficient if the whole project runs on one. Bespoke development makes sense when your practice has its own register and you want the site to connect to it.
