Custom route planning app development for door-to-door sales

Appfront builds apps for organisations that recruit or sell door to door: a route per salesperson with today's addresses, an outcome per address (not at home, not interested, appointment, opted out of further contact), areas divided between teams without double visits, addresses that must not be visited removed from the route in advance, and lead details sent straight to the CRM. So a street is not knocked on twice in one week, and a resident who does not want contact no longer receives it.

What is a route planning app for door-to-door sales?

Route planning for door-to-door sales means dividing addresses among salespeople and days so that each address is visited once within a period, each salesperson has a logical round, and the rules per municipality are followed. An app turns an area into a list of addresses, divides it among teams and days, gives the salesperson their route on the phone, and lets them record the outcome for each address. Addresses that may not be visited stay out of the route, and a resident who declines further contact is recorded there.

Without such an app, the salesperson gets a printed street list, crosses off what they have done and hands the list in at the end of the day. Two teams rang the same block of flats, an address that refused contact last month is back on the list, and the complaint lands with the client. The leads are then retyped into the CRM in the evening.

We build custom software because the planning has to match your campaigns and your rules: which clients you canvass for, which areas and periods, which municipalities require a door-to-door permit, how you divide teams and where leads end up in which CRM. A generic route planner knows nothing about visited addresses, exclusions or door-to-door permits.

Areas and routes

An area as a list of addresses taken from the map, divided across teams and days, with a route for each salesperson that starts and ends where the car is parked and skips anything already visited or excluded.

Recording per address

The outcome for each address with a single tap: not at home, not interested, appointment, lead, or no further contact wanted. Recorded with time and location, so the route can be demonstrably completed.

Rules and leads

Door-to-door permits and municipal rules per area in the app, excluded addresses removed from the route in advance, and leads sent straight to the CRM with the details the client requires.

How we build your route planning app for door-to-door sales

We start with the complaints and duplicate visits from the last campaign: where things went wrong, which list was out of date, and how long it took to retype the leads. The app is built from there.

1
Mapping campaigns and rules

Which clients you work for, how areas and teams are currently divided, which municipalities require permits, how exclusions are tracked and which CRM receives the leads.

2
Areas, addresses and exclusions

Areas on the map with the addresses within them, the exclusion list per client and per resident, and the permits and rules per municipality.

3
Routes and recording

The allocation across teams and days, the route on the salesperson's phone, the registration per address with outcome, and the appointment or lead.

4
CRM, reporting and ongoing management

Leads into the client's CRM, reporting per salesperson and area, follow-up of appointments, and then ongoing management and new campaigns.

What a door-to-door route planning app actually does

The components below come up at almost every organisation that works door to door. Which ones you need depends on your clients and on the municipalities where you operate.

Area division

Drawing areas on the map, adding addresses, allocating them across teams and days, with a visit history so that an area is not walked again too soon.

Route per salesperson

Today's addresses in a logical order on the phone, with navigation, and skipping of visited and excluded addresses.

Recording per address

Outcome with one tap, time and location, notes and the next action, even without a signal.

Exclusions and rules

Addresses that must not be visited, per client and per resident, door-to-door permits and time windows per municipality, all automatically built into the route.

Leads into the CRM

A lead or appointment with the details the client asks for, sent straight to the CRM, with the salesperson and address attached.

Reporting

Addresses, conversations, appointments and leads per salesperson, per area and per campaign, plus complaints per area as an early warning signal.

Who we build a door-to-door route planning app for

The app is designed for organisations where many people work at the door at the same time, and where duplicate visits and wrong addresses currently lead to complaints and lost leads.

Fundraising agencies for charities

Donor recruitment on commission, under strict client rules. Exclusions and leads into the CRM are at the core.

Sales teams for energy and telecoms

Door-to-door sales with municipal rules and many teams. Non-overlapping area divisions and permits per municipality matter most.

Door-to-door organisations with their own product

In-house salespeople with a fixed region. Daily routes and follow-up of appointments are what is needed.

Organisations with changing campaigns

A different area and a different client for each campaign. The campaign as a unit with its own rules and reporting is the core.

Why choose Appfront for your door-to-door route planning app?

Working at the door is winning trust in thirty seconds; a second visit in the same week throws it away. That is what we build on: every address visited once, with the rules built into the route in advance.

No address twice

The route knows the visits of all teams. What has been done does not come back until the period has passed.

The rules sit in the route

Exclusions, permits and time windows are applied in advance. The salesperson does not need to know them; they only see the addresses that are permitted.

The lead belongs to the client straight away

Entered at the door, straight into the CRM. No list that gets retyped in the evening.

Security and privacy in a door-to-door route planning app

The app works with address data, visit history, sales agents' positions and resident lead details, along with opt-outs that a resident has requested themselves. Access is set up by role and by campaign: the sales agent sees only their route for today, the team leader their area, and the client only the leads from their campaign. Positions are used to record the route and are not kept longer than necessary for that purpose; lead details are deleted after transfer to the CRM, in line with the agreement with the client.

The app runs in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily back-ups. Integrations with clients' CRMs use their own keys, which can be revoked per integration.

Frequently asked questions about an app for door-to-door route planning

Questions that recruitment agencies and sales organisations ask before getting started.

It turns an area into a list of addresses, divides those across teams and days, gives each salesperson their route on the phone and lets them record the outcome per address. Excluded addresses and municipal rules are built into the route in advance, leads go straight to the CRM, and reporting shows per salesperson and area what it delivered.

All teams work from the same address list with visit history. An address that has been visited drops out of every route until the period you set for each campaign has passed, and an address with an appointment or a lead is no longer offered.

A resident who says so is excluded with a single tap, per client or across all your campaigns, for as long as you specify. You can import clients' opt-out lists. Excluded addresses no longer appear on any route.

For each municipality you record whether a permit is required, which time windows apply and which areas are excluded. The app only plans routes within those rules and lets the salesperson show the permit on their phone if asked.

Yes. The route is on the phone, outcomes are stored locally and sent as soon as there is coverage, with the time and position of the moment of recording.

Yes. For each campaign you set which details a lead contains and which CRM it goes to. The lead is entered at the door and forwarded immediately. We connect to your clients' systems; the app does not become a second CRM.

Check that first. A route planner creates an efficient path past addresses, which is enough if you only want to know the order. Custom development makes sense when several teams share the same area, when exclusions and municipal rules need to be built into the route, when an outcome has to be recorded per address, or when leads need to go straight into a CRM.

Every address once, the rules built into the route, and the lead straight into the CRM?

Tell us which clients you work for, how many sales agents are out at the same time and how the last complaint about a double visit came about. We'll show you what the area division, the route and the recording look like.
