Every gully on the map with its frequency A route the suction vehicle can drive What the crew found, recorded for each gully

Custom gully cleaning and route planning app development

Appfront builds apps for municipalities, water boards and sewer cleaning contractors who clean gullies: every gully on the map with type, location and cleaning frequency, routes per round that account for the vacuum lorry, traffic and the neighbourhood, a record for each gully of whether it was cleaned, how full it was and what was going on, and a report per area for the client. So that when the next downpour comes, it doesn't turn out a street has been skipped for two rounds.

What is a gully cleaning and route planning app?

A municipality has tens of thousands of gullies, the drains in the street that let rainwater run into the sewer. They need to be cleaned regularly, otherwise they fill with leaves, sand and litter and the street floods in the next downpour. A gully cleaning app tracks for each gully when it is due, plans routes for the vacuum lorry, and records what the crew found at each gully.

In many municipalities, cleaning is scheduled by neighbourhood on a map, and the crew works from a list. Which gullies were skipped because a car was parked on them is not always recorded. A gully that is blocked or broken is reported by phone, or not at all. And when a resident complains about water on the street, there is no way to see when the gullies in that street were last cleaned and how full they were at the time.

We build custom solutions because the planning has to match your assets and your way of working: how your gully inventory is structured, which system manages the public space, which frequencies apply to each area, which vehicles and crews you use, whether you clean in-house or outsource, and what reporting the client requires. A route planner knows addresses; it does not know the gullies with their frequencies, or the record kept for each one.

Every gully on the map

The gully register with type, location and cleaning frequency, from your management system, showing when each gully is next due.

Routes that are drivable

Routes per round and area, with the sequence for the suction vehicle, taking into account one-way streets, markets and schools.

Recorded per gully

Cleaned, skipped, blocked or damaged, with fill level and photo, entered on site by the crew.

How we build your gully cleaning and route planning app

We start with a round: how many gullies, how they are scheduled, how they are recorded, and how many turned out to have been skipped.

1
Mapping the asset and working method

Your gully register and management system, frequencies per area, vehicles and crews, and the reporting the client requires.

2
Gullies and frequencies

Importing the gully register, the frequency per gully or area, and the planning per round.

3
Routes and recording

Routes for the suction vehicle, the crew app with recording per gully, photos and reports.

4
Reporting and integrations

Reporting per area and round, repair notifications, integration with the asset management system, and ongoing maintenance.

What a gully cleaning and route planning app actually does

The components below come up in almost every gully cleaning operation. Which ones you need depends on your asset base and whether you clean in-house.

Gully register

Every gully with type, location, street and area, from your public space management system.

Frequencies

Cleaning frequency per gully or area, higher near trees, markets or known problem spots.

Routes

A route for the suction vehicle per round, in a logical order, with one-way streets and time windows.

Recording per gully

Cleaned, skipped with reason, fill level, blockage or damage, with photo and time.

Notifications

A gully that is blocked or broken becomes a repair notification, with location and photo.

Reporting

Per area and round, what was cleaned and skipped, fill levels and waste volumes, for the client.

Who we build a gully cleaning and route planning app for

The app is intended for organisations that currently plan gully cleaning with maps and lists.

Municipalities with their own crews

The entire asset base managed in-house. Frequencies and recording per gully are the core.

Sewer cleaning contractors

Cleaning on behalf of multiple municipalities. Routes and reporting per client matter most.

Water boards

Gullies and drains along roads under their management. The gully register and notifications are what is needed.

Business park and site managers

Gullies on sites and car parks. Frequency and recording are the core.

Technology and integrations

This page covers cleaning road gullies. For sewer inspection and management, see our page on sewer software; for fieldwork on sewers, our page on a sewer app; and for routes in general, our page on route planning software. You can read about our approach at building software.

Why Appfront for your gully cleaning and route planning app?

Nobody notices a skipped gully until it rains. We build around that: every gully on time, a route that can be driven, and a record for each gully of what happened.

Nothing skipped without a reason

A gully that was not cleaned is listed with the reason and returns in the next schedule.

Frequency where it is needed

Fill levels show where gullies fill up fast. The frequency can be adjusted street by street.

An answer to a complaint

When water lies on the street, you can see when the gullies there were last cleaned and how full they were.

Security and privacy in a gully cleaning and route planning app

The app holds data on public space, schedules and crew records. Access is set by role: the crew sees their route, the planner sees the full area, and the client sees reporting for their own district. Records are logged with crew, time and location.

The app also works without signal and syncs as soon as there is a connection. Data is held in a European data centre, with encrypted storage and daily backups.

Frequently asked questions about a gully cleaning and route planning app

Questions that municipalities and cleaning contractors ask before getting started.

It keeps the gully register with cleaning frequencies, plans rounds by area, creates routes for the suction vehicle, lets the crew record for each gully whether it has been cleaned and how full it was, reports blockages and damage, and provides area-level reporting to the client.

From the municipality's public space asset management system, or from a file the client supplies. We look at which data is available in the first step.

Per round and area, in an order the suction vehicle can drive, taking into account one-way traffic, time windows around schools and markets, and the point where the vehicle needs to empty.

The crew records it as skipped with the reason, for example a parked car. The gully returns in a later schedule.

Yes. Gullies under trees or in places that flood quickly are given a higher frequency. The fill levels from the records help adjust those frequencies.

Yes. Each client has their own gully register, their own frequencies and their own reporting, all within the same app used by the crews.

Check that first. Many public space management systems have a module for gullies and scheduling, and that is enough if you plan simply by district. Custom development makes sense if routes for the suction vehicle need optimising, if the crew records each gully on site, or if you work for several clients.

Every gully cleaned on time, and a record of what happened at each one?
