Accounting Open API Webshop & SMEs

Custom Informer integration development

Appfront builds custom integrations with Informer, the Dutch online accounting software for freelancers, start-ups and SMEs. Via the open API we connect your accounts with your webshop, CRM, invoicing software or your own application. Sales invoices, customers and relations, VAT and the general ledger stay automatically in sync, so you never enter anything twice and your bookkeeping is always up to date.

What is an Informer integration?

Informer, also known as InformerOnline, is Dutch online accounting software for freelancers, start-ups, SMEs and the accountancy and bookkeeping firms that support them. You keep your invoices, customers, VAT returns and general ledger online. Informer offers an open API that allows you to retrieve data from your accounts or send data into them, so your bookkeeping no longer stands on its own.

In practice, a custom integration means: sales invoices you create in another programme are booked into Informer automatically, customers and relations are synchronised with your CRM or email programme, orders from your webshop are passed to the accounts in one go, and data such as mileage logs or expenses is imported. We set up each flow with the correct VAT rates and ledger accounts.

Appfront builds on the official Informer API documentation and the OWASP guidelines for secure software. Authentication runs via an API key and security code that you create yourself in Informer. We tailor the integration to your actual administrative processes, so it keeps working reliably, even as your number of invoices or orders grows.

Open API with API key

Informer offers an open API based on an API key and security code that you create yourself. One key per integration, so access stays separate and you can easily revoke it later.

No double entry

Invoices, customers and orders flow automatically between your systems and Informer. You no longer need to type anything, which reduces errors and keeps your bookkeeping always current and complete.

VAT and ledger in order

We set up every stream with the correct VAT rates and ledger accounts. That way amounts land in the right place and your bookkeeping meets the requirements of your accountant or bookkeeping firm.

Our development process for Informer integrations

We work to a proven methodology that removes uncertainty early and delivers a stable integration. From an initial analysis of your data flows, VAT logic and the systems to be connected, through to go-live and ongoing management: every step aims for an integration that you and your accountant can understand and trust.

1
Analysis & scope

We map out which data needs to flow between Informer and your other systems, which VAT rates and ledger accounts are involved, and which direction the synchronisation should take.

2
Architecture

We design the integration, set up the API key and security code securely, and establish a strategy for error handling and re-submitting failed bookings.

3
Development

Implementation with automated tests, structured logging and monitoring. You'll see working integrations along the way and can follow the progress.

4
Go-live & management

Controlled go-live with validation of invoices and bookings, followed by ongoing management, monitoring and further development.

What an Informer integration actually delivers

Every Informer integration is set up specifically for your bookkeeping, data flows and adjacent systems. Below are the functionalities we most often deliver for freelancers, SMEs, webshops and accounting firms working with Informer.

Open API & API key

We integrate with Informer's open API using a dedicated API key and security code per integration. Keys are held in a secure vault and can be rotated or revoked without your bookkeeping grinding to a halt.

Sales invoice synchronisation

If you create invoices in another programme, we book them into Informer automatically. Conversely, invoices from Informer can also flow into your own system, so you never have to enter anything twice.

Customers & relationships

We keep customers and relationships in sync between Informer and your CRM or email programme. New customers from your webshop or CRM are neatly added as relations in your bookkeeping, with the correct details and no duplicate records.

VAT & general ledger

We set up every data stream with the correct VAT rates and ledger accounts. That way amounts land in the right place in Informer, and your records meet the requirements of your accountant.

Passing on webshop orders

Orders from your webshop are sent automatically to Informer, so there is no need to retype them by hand. Including the correct VAT, ledger allocation and customer details as a relation in your bookkeeping.

Importing mileage & expenses

We import mileage logs, receipts or expenses from another system neatly into Informer. Everything sits in one place for your tax return, with no need to transfer data manually.

Typical use cases in practice

An Informer integration looks different for every business. We see a number of recurring patterns, and for each one we have a working setup with attention to the correct VAT rates, ledger accounts and data flows.

CRM

Sole traders and freelancers

Self-employed professionals who keep their bookkeeping in Informer and want invoices or customers from another programme to flow in automatically. Less retyping, fewer errors and bookkeeping that is always up to date for your tax return. See also our API integrations.

Small and medium-sized businesses

Small and medium-sized businesses that use Informer as the hub of their administration and want to connect several systems. A CRM for relations, an invoicing tool for sales and a bespoke application: via the API we keep customers, invoices and the general ledger in sync across all systems. Also read about middleware.

Webshops & e-commerce

Webshops that want orders to flow automatically into Informer instead of being retyped by hand. We connect your webshop, define the correct VAT and ledger mapping, and make sure customers appear as relations in your bookkeeping. More on e-commerce development.

Accountancy and bookkeeping firms

Firms that manage multiple clients in Informer and want to connect data with their own workflow or reporting tools. We build integrations that use the right keys and permissions per administration, so client data stays neatly separated.

Technology we use

We build Informer integrations on Informer's open API, combined with the backend stack that suits you. The precise choice depends on your webshop, CRM and invoicing, so that your own team or accountant can understand the integration and extend it.

Why Appfront for your Informer integration?

Appfront has extensive experience building API integrations for a wide range of organisations in the Netherlands. We always start with a thorough analysis of your existing systems and processes. An integration should not only work technically, but also add practical value to the way you work.

For every integration, we write clear documentation and make sure your own team, or any future supplier, can understand and manage it. No black box, just transparent code and clear agreements on monitoring, alerting and maintenance.

You work with a dedicated point of contact who understands both the technical and the functional side. This keeps communication short, prevents misunderstandings and speeds up decisions when choices need to be made during development.

  • Experience with Informer's open API and accounting integrations
  • Familiar with VAT rates, general ledgers and webshop orders
  • Secure by default, with safe management of API keys and security codes
  • Clear documentation that your team and accountant can read and manage
  • Structured error handling and retry mechanisms
  • Comprehensive logging and monitoring from day one
  • A fixed point of contact, no account managers passed around
  • Ongoing maintenance and proactive further development

Security and privacy in Informer integrations

Bookkeeping data always contains personal data and financially sensitive information, such as customer details, invoices and VAT returns. Appfront builds in line with the OWASP ASVS. This means, among other things: API keys and security codes held in secure vaults, traffic encrypted via TLS, as few permissions as possible per integration, and regular audits of data flows.

Because financial data deserves extra protection, we document which data flows between Informer and your other systems and on what legal basis. This keeps your record of processing activities complete and lets you demonstrate compliance with the GDPR. For each integration you can revoke a separate API key without affecting the rest of your administration.

More on our security approach: information security policy and CVD policy.

  • GDPR-compliant data processing and data minimisation
  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest
  • Role-based access and least-privilege principles
  • Audit logs with traceable data flows
  • Automatic retries and dead-letter queues
  • Monitoring and alerting for anomalies
  • Secrets management in line with best practice
  • Documentation for your record of processing activities

Frequently asked questions about Informer integrations

Answers to the questions we are asked most often about Informer integrations.

An Informer integration is a technical link between your Informer accounting software (InformerOnline) and another system, such as your webshop, CRM, invoicing tool or in-house application. Using Informer's open API, you exchange data programmatically: sales invoices, customers and contacts, VAT details and general ledger entries. Authentication runs on an API key and security code that you create yourself in Informer. An integration can be simple, such as synchronising customers, or extensive, covering webshop orders, VAT logic and automated general ledger allocation.

Informer is aimed at freelancers, start-ups and SMEs that want to keep their bookkeeping online, as well as the accountants and bookkeeping firms that support them. An integration becomes worthwhile as soon as data is entered twice: a webshop where orders are retyped by hand, an invoicing tool that sits apart from your accounts, or a CRM whose customer details don't match Informer. Through the API, you can have those systems talk to each other automatically.

Using Informer's open API, you can retrieve data from your accounts or send data into them. Common flows include creating and synchronising sales invoices, adding or updating customers and contacts, linking VAT rates and general ledger accounts, and passing orders from a webshop through. Importing mileage logs or expenses from another system is also possible. Which flows are relevant to you, we'll determine together during the discovery phase.

Informer works with an open API based on an API key and a matching security code. You create these yourself in Informer via Settings and then API keys. You can generate a separate key for each integration, which keeps access separated and lets you revoke a key easily later. Appfront stores these keys in a secure environment and never includes them in plain text in the code.

A simple integration, such as synchronising customers or booking invoices from a single source into Informer, typically goes live faster than an extensive integration covering webshop orders, VAT logic and automated general ledger allocation. After an intake meeting, in which we map out your data flows and systems, we'll give you a realistic estimate of the timeline, with no surprises along the way.

Yes. Accounting data contains personal data and financially sensitive information, so we build in line with OWASP guidelines. API keys and security codes are held in a secure vault, traffic is encrypted over TLS, and each integration is granted the fewest possible permissions. We document the data flows so that your record of processing activities stays complete and you can demonstrably comply with the GDPR.

Yes. Appfront regularly takes over existing integrations, even those set up by another party. We review the API integration, the data flows, the error handling and the key management, document the current setup and draw up proposals for improvement. From that point on, we handle adjustments, extensions and monitoring, including timely rotation of API keys.

Yes. A popular use case is automatically passing webshop orders through to your accounts in Informer, so that orders don't need to be retyped by hand. We connect your webshop, determine which VAT rates and general ledger accounts belong to which products, and make sure customer details end up neatly as contacts in Informer. That way your bookkeeping stays up to date without extra manual work.
