Company.info is optimal for Dutch company data and compliance. For purely international coverage, Creditsafe or D&B are directly stronger.
Technical Approach
SOAP or REST — the Right Choice
Company.info has two platforms: the mature SOAP platform (webservices.nl) with 295 tables and 17,241 columns, and the newer REST API (api.company.info) using the JSON:API spec. The SOAP API still offers the most endpoints (dutchBusiness*, Creditsafe, Graydon, D&B); the REST API is more modern but does not yet cover everything. We choose the right platform for each use case.
API Key Authentication & Policies
Authentication via X-API-Key header (REST) or credentials in the SOAP envelope. Every API key has policy-based access control — you determine per key which endpoints are accessible. We implement secure key rotation, environment-specific keys (dev/staging/prod) and rate limit handling (429 responses with exponential backoff).
Async UBO Investigation Pattern
UBO research is the most complex integration pattern: dutchBusinessUBOStartInvestigation → poll with CheckInvestigation → retrieve with PickupInvestigation → classify with ClassifyInvestigation. We build this as a background job with a webhook callback so your application does not have to wait for results.
Caching & NMI Compliance
Company.info data may not be cached without limits — personal director data and NMI status in particular require careful handling. We implement intelligent caching: core company data (24-hour TTL), credit scores (refreshed on demand), and NMI checks before every marketing use. The dutchBusinessUpdateGetChangedDossiers endpoint serves as the cache invalidation trigger.
Dutch Business Data: Identifiers & Structure
Correct integration requires an understanding of the Dutch business data landscape. We connect to Company.info with the right mapping of identifiers to your data model.
KvK Identifier Hierarchy
KvK number (8 digits) — Unique registration per legal entity. One B.V. = one KvK number.
Branch number (12 digits) — Per physical location. One B.V. with 5 offices = 5 branch numbers.
RSIN (9 digits): tax identification number, linked to the VAT number.
Many CRM systems only store the KvK number. We always map at branch number level for correct addressing.
SBI Codes & Activities
SBI code (5 digits) — Standard Industrial Classification (SBI), the Dutch variant of NACE. It determines the sector and activity.
Multiple SBI codes — A company can have several SBI codes (main and secondary activities).
Recent update — In September 2025 a major SBI revision took place that affected many companies. The API data was unavailable for 3 days.
We use dutchBusinessGetSBI for full descriptions and to map to your internal sector classification.
Legal Forms
B.V. — Private limited company (the most common among business clients)
N.V. — Public limited company (listed on the stock exchange)
V.O.F. — General partnership (partners are jointly and severally liable)
Sole proprietorship — Self-employed/freelancer (note: NMI status is often active)
The legal form determines UBO regulations and the credit scoring method. We build legal-form-aware workflows.
GDPR, Wwft & Compliance in Company.info Integration
Company.info contains both public business data and personal data of directors and shareholders. Handling this correctly is a legal obligation and requires deliberate architectural choices.
Data Processing Agreement
Company.info is the data controller for their database, but becomes a data processor when delivering to you. That requires a data processing agreement per client. We ensure your integration complies with the agreed purpose limitation: credit checks only for financial assessment, not for marketing.
NMI (Non-Marketing Indicator)
Companies can set an NMI — in which case they may not be approached for marketing purposes. Company.info automatically filters NMI contacts out of exports, but via the API you need to check this yourself. We implement dutchBusinessGetNonMarketingIndicator checks before every marketing use.
Wwft Compliance
Wwft-obligated organisations (banks, insurers, notaries, accountants) must identify UBOs and carry out PEP and sanctions screening. Company.info offers this in an automated way. We build complete audit trails: who performed which check, when, and with what result. Essential for regulator reporting.
Telemarketing Act 2026
From 1 July 2026, prior explicit consent is required for telemarketing to natural persons. Cadastre and KvK new-registration signals may no longer be used for direct marketing. We build consent management into the integration so that you are future-proof.
