Custom e-learning app development
Course platforms, training programmes and certification apps that genuinely fit the way your learners learn, rather than a standard LMS template.
Custom e-learning, because you want to make a real difference in how you teach
Standard LMSs (Moodle, TalentLMS, Easygenerator) are fine for general training. But if you really want your learners to learn, with adaptive paths, industry-specific simulations, smart built-in feedback and hard integrations with an exam register or HR suite, you quickly hit their limits. That's when we build something of your own, often alongside your existing LMS, sometimes as a replacement.
How we build e-learning apps
We don't start with content modules and buttons, but with the learning outcome your organisation wants to achieve. From there, we work backwards to the structure, content flow and technology.
Learning outcomes & curriculum
We work with your subject teachers, training manager or L&D team to define concrete learning objectives: measurable, phased and linked to competencies or certification requirements.
Instructional design
Which formats fit best? Video, microlearning, quizzes, simulations, peer review or on-the-job assignments? We combine them based on what demonstrably works for your audience and subject area.
Content strategy & SCORM
Migrating existing content or starting from scratch? We choose between open formats (xAPI, SCORM 2004), interactive frameworks (H5P, a custom renderer) or fully custom components.
Live MVP course
A first cohort of learners works through a clearly defined course. We track progress, drop-off, assessment scores and gather feedback per module, not just at the end.
Iteration on learning data
With xAPI data, we can see where learners get stuck, which videos are rewound and which questions are often answered incorrectly. We refine the content, sequence and difficulty level accordingly.
Scale & integrations
Integrations with HR systems (AFAS, Visma, SAP SuccessFactors), examination registers (KCH, CIBG), payment providers and single sign-on, so that the e-learning fits seamlessly into your organisation.
Building blocks we already have in place
We rarely start from scratch. We refine these components for each project, which means faster go-live, lower costs and proven patterns.
Course management
Modules, lessons, lesson sequencing, prerequisites, deadlines, cohorts and milestones, manageable by your editorial team without developer involvement.
Assessment & feedback
Quizzes, case studies, open questions with automatic or manual marking, peer review, and audio uploads for language or music.
Video & streaming
Adaptive bitrate streaming via Mux or Cloudflare Stream, captions/transcripts, chapters, and a per-learner watermark to deter content leaks.
Progress & dashboards
Per learner, per cohort, per course. For learners themselves, for tutors and for training management (L&D KPIs).
Certification
Automatic certificate issuing with a PDF and verification link, integrations with certification bodies and LinkedIn credential import.
Offline & mobile
Download lessons for offline use on the train or plane, syncing when you reconnect. Native iOS/Android or a well-built PWA.
Test your idea first: a working prototype in 1 day
With OneDayBuild, we turn your idea into something tangible in one day for €1,150, so you can see whether further development is worth the investment. Decide to go ahead with the full build? Then we credit the full cost.
Explore OneDayBuild →What makes custom e-learning apps different
Custom e-learning is not a luxury. The difference lies in these choices, which you can't (properly) make in a standard LMS.
- Adaptive learning paths that adjust to the learner's prior knowledge, pace and preferred format
- Sector-specific simulations (care case studies, financial calculations, technical diagrams) built in, rather than forced through SCORM
- A UX that feels like a consumer app, not enterprise software from 2014, so learners open it voluntarily
- Ownership of your content, learning data and roadmap, with no vendor lock-in to an LMS supplier
- Scalable licensing costs: build once, with no per-learner monthly fees as you grow
- Integrations with HR, payments and examination registers fully under your own control
Who we build e-learning apps for
We build most for educators whose content doesn't fit a standard mould, and for whom the learner is more than a seat licence.
Professional training providers & trade bodies
Professional diplomas, refresher and continuing training, and certifications linked to examination registers. Quality requirements you would not want to leave to a generic platform.
Corporate L&D teams
Onboarding for 500+ employees, compliance training that actually sticks, and leadership programmes that build cohort cohesion.
Training agencies
Blended programmes (classroom + online), protecting your own IP against copy platforms, and better margins by avoiding licence fees.
Healthcare & education institutions
BIG re-registration, professional competence, and MBO/HBO modules with SLB integration. Often subject to strict audit requirements.
Software vendors
Customer onboarding, product certification for partners, and in-app coaching that evolves alongside your product roadmap.
Publishers & content owners
Commercialise teaching methods in app form, manage school licences, and connect to a VLE or classroom devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you build the entire platform, or only the app for an existing LMS?
Both occur. Some clients keep their existing LMS (often Moodle or TalentLMS) and get a branded mobile app from us as an additional channel; others replace the entire LMS with a custom platform. We advise based on your content volume, existing integrations and target audience.
How do you handle SCORM and xAPI content?
We fully support SCORM 1.2 and 2004. Content built in Articulate Storyline, Captivate or Easygenerator runs straight inside a custom platform. For new content we often recommend xAPI or native components, as they give you much richer learning data on how learners interact.
Which integrations with HR and examination register systems are possible?
We have built integrations with AFAS, Visma, SAP SuccessFactors, Personio, KCH, CIBG and custom examination registers. Single sign-on via SAML, OIDC or Azure AD is standard, as is automatic learner creation based on an HR event.
Can learners work offline?
Yes. We build native iOS and Android apps with selective offline sync. Learners download modules in advance, complete lessons and tests offline, and progress syncs once they're back online. This works for video and interactive content, but not for live components such as peer chat or live feedback.
How much does a custom e-learning app cost?
An MVP for a defined training programme with basic course management, video streaming and certification typically falls between €60,000 and €120,000. Adding adaptive learning paths, simulations or complex HR integrations takes you towards €150,000–€250,000. We're happy to spend a day working through the concept with you first so we can give you a realistic estimate.
How long does a project take?
An MVP for a single course, including content management and the first cohort of learners, usually takes 4–6 months. A full multi-course platform with integrations and native apps takes 8–12 months. We work in releases, so you don't have to wait until the end to see whether it works.
Build an e-learning platform that learners actually keep coming back to
We'll spend an hour talking through your training programme, target audience and what a platform of your own will really deliver. No sales pitch, just honest advice.
