AI automation for the veterinary sector
From X-ray image analysis and automated report writing to smarter stock management and triage timeframes, artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the day-to-day running of veterinary practices. We build AI solutions that fit your existing practice management system and measurably reduce the workload on the treatment floor.
Veterinary medicine under pressure: staff shortages and rising workload
The veterinary sector in the Netherlands is struggling with a structural shortage of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nursing staff. Meanwhile, the number of companion animals is growing, treatments are becoming more complex, and pet owners expect faster responses. Practice management systems such as Animana, Provet Cloud and Vetware already hold vast amounts of data, from patient records and lab results to billing history, yet that data is barely used to support decision-making.
AI offers a concrete answer to that gap. Not by replacing the vet, but by automating repetitive tasks so that more time is left for the consultation, surgery and contact with the animal's owner. From automatic differential diagnosis suggestions based on the EHR to smart stock management models that reorder at the right moment: the applications are immediately usable and measurable.
We develop AI modules that integrate seamlessly with the practice management software you already use. Not a replacement of your way of working, but a reinforcement of it, with the vet always in control.
AI applications for veterinary practices and clinics
From first-line companion animal practices to referral clinics and farm animal vets, AI resolves specific bottlenecks in every segment of veterinary care.
Diagnostic image analysis
Computer vision models that analyse X-rays, ultrasound images and CT scans for abnormalities. Think of detecting fractures, thoracic abnormalities, abdominal masses and dental pathology. The model highlights suspicious areas so the vet can reach an assessment faster, which is especially valuable in out-of-hours emergencies when no specialist is available.
Automated record keeping
NLP-driven speech-to-text that summarises the consultation in real time and places it directly in the patient record. The vet dictates observations and the treatment plan; the system structures the note according to the SOAP format (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) used by most PMS systems. Less typing, more legible records.
Triage and waiting room management
An AI triage module that classifies incoming telephone and online requests by urgency. Based on the symptoms entered, the animal's signalment and medical history, the model determines whether a patient should be seen the same day, can be booked for a routine appointment, or should be referred to an emergency clinic. It relieves the front desk and shortens waiting times.
Stock and medication management
Predictive models that forecast your pharmacy's stock requirements based on seasonal patterns, consultation frequencies and historical usage. Automatic order suggestions for vaccines, anthelmintics, antibiotics and anaesthetics. Prevents popular medicines from running out unexpectedly and reduces waste of products with a short shelf life.
Lab results and reference values
AI that interprets blood values, urinalyses and microbiological cultures in the context of the individual animal's breed, age, sex and medication use. No more generic reference ranges, but personalised deviation detection that flags subtle trends before clinical symptoms appear, such as early kidney insufficiency in the older cat or indicators of Cushing's disease in the dog.
Communication with pet owners
AI assistants that answer owners' frequently asked questions via the website or client portal: appointment confirmations, reminders for vaccinations and worming, post-operative care instructions and explanations of lab results. The practice remains reachable outside opening hours without staff needing to be available continuously.
Integration with your practice management system
AI modules only work well when they fit seamlessly into your daily workflow. We build integrations with the practice management systems common in Dutch veterinary practices.
Cloud-based practice management integrations
Animana (IDEXX), Provet Cloud and Viva Veterinary offer APIs through which AI modules can read from and write to the patient record directly. We build the middleware that connects your AI layer to these systems, including authentication, rate limiting and error handling. The result: diagnostic suggestions appear on the right screen, lab interpretations are filed against the correct patient, and stock movements flow into the accounts automatically.
On-premise and hybrid setups
Not every practice management system runs in the cloud. Vetware and older Fuga installations often require local integrations via HL7 messages or database views. We develop synchronisation services that exchange data securely between your local server and the AI cloud environment, with encryption in transit and at rest. For sensitive datasets such as genetic pedigree information or breeding advice programmes, models can also run entirely on-premise.
DICOM and image archiving
Veterinary X-ray and ultrasound equipment typically communicates via DICOM. Our image analysis pipeline retrieves studies from your PACS archive, runs the AI analysis and writes findings back as structured annotations. Compatible with common veterinary modalities from Eickemeyer, IMV Imaging, Sound and Fujifilm.
Laboratory equipment
IDEXX analysers (Catalyst, ProCyte, SediVue), Heska elements and Abaxis VetScan produce standardised result messages. We connect this output to the AI interpretation model and send the enriched analysis straight into the EHR, including historical trend charts that the vet can review at a glance.
From first consultation to production environment: our approach
Every AI project starts with your practice situation, not with technology. We follow an iterative process that involves you at every step.
Assessment and data review
Together we map out your pain points: where do you lose the most time? Which tasks are most prone to error? We assess the data quality in your PMS and determine which AI application will deliver returns most quickly. In companion animal practices that is often record-keeping or triage; in referral clinics, diagnostic image analysis; for farm animal veterinarians, herd monitoring.
Proof of concept on your own data
No demo on fictitious datasets. We train or fine-tune the model on your own anonymised patient data, so you can see immediately whether the AI output is useful in your context. For image analysis that means your X-ray equipment, your image quality and your patient population. The proof of concept runs in isolation: no patient data leaves your environment without your consent.
Iterative development in sprints
Once the PoC is validated, we build the production version in short sprints. Each sprint delivers working functionality that your team can test in daily practice. Feedback from veterinarians and veterinary nursing staff directly shapes the next iteration, so the final product fits the workplace rather than a theoretical ideal.
Rollout, monitoring and ongoing development
After go-live we continuously monitor model performance. AI models in healthcare require regular recalibration: new medicines, revised treatment protocols and changing patient populations all affect accuracy. We provide ongoing maintenance and recalibration so your AI investment retains its value in the long term.

Domain knowledge and engineering under one roof
We combine experience with enterprise AI implementations and healthcare-adjacent sectors with strong software engineering. That means we know how to set up medical image processing, how HL7 and FHIR standards work, and how to validate an AI model before it runs in a clinical environment.
Full-stack custom development, not one-size-fits-all
Every animal type, practice model and PMS has different requirements. We build custom software that fits your exact situation, whether you run a single-vet practice on Animana or a specialist referral clinic with a home-built EHR. No licences for features you don't use.
Privacy and data security as a foundation
Animal health data does not fall under the GDPR (which covers personal data), but owner data does, and the professional code for veterinarians sets requirements for confidentiality. We design AI systems with privacy by design: data minimisation, role-based access control and encryption. Wherever possible, sensitive data never leaves your network.
Long-term partnership
AI in the veterinary sector is not a one-off project. Protocols change, new diagnostic techniques emerge and your practice grows. We offer ongoing management: model monitoring, retraining on fresh data, and expansion into new areas of application when your team is ready.
Data security, professional code and responsible AI use
AI in veterinary medicine touches on confidentiality, professional ethics and regulation. We take this seriously, not as an afterthought but as a design principle.
GDPR compliance for owner data
Owner data (name, address and contact details, payment history, communication preferences) falls under the GDPR. Our systems separate owner data from animal data, so AI models are trained on anonymised medical data without processing personal data.
KNMvD professional code
The Royal Dutch Veterinary Association (KNMvD) states that the veterinarian remains ultimately responsible for diagnosis and treatment. Our AI is explicitly decision-support: the model suggests, the veterinarian decides. All AI outputs are logged with traceability to the source model and input data.
Transparent model performance
We report the sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of every diagnostic model on your own dataset. No black-box AI: you know when the model is reliable and when its advice should be assessed with extra caution.
