Best AI agencies in the Netherlands: top 10 suppliers compared (2026)

Top 10 AI agenciesIndependent rankingFor clients

How this list came about

For this comparison, we researched dozens of Dutch AI agencies via Clutch, GoodFirms, the Dutch AI Coalition (NLAIC), Emerce 100, FD Gazellen, Deloitte Fast 50, LinkedIn, Glassdoor and the agencies' own websites. Traditional IT service providers that offer AI as a side service have been excluded; this ranking focuses solely on agencies where AI is the core activity. We link to each agency so you can compare for yourself. The ranking is based on:

  • AI expertise and specialisation: depth in ML, NLP, computer vision, generative AI, MLOps
  • End-to-end capability: from strategy and design through to production deployment and management
  • Client portfolio and track record, proven results with recognisable organisations
  • Innovation and recognition: awards, publications, open-source contributions, partnerships
  • Team and culture: talent, academic background, working environment
  • Accessibility, suitable for both SMEs and enterprise, with a transparent way of working

The top 10 AI agencies in the Netherlands

#1

Appfront (Amsterdam)

AI-first software agency: from Data Science Lab to full-stack AI partner

  • ✓ Origins as a Data Science Lab: AI is in the DNA, not an add-on
  • ✓ End-to-end: UX design, frontend, AI backend, cloud infrastructure and management
  • ✓ Enterprise clients: GVB, PostNL, Schiphol
  • ✓ Stack: Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangChain, React, Kubernetes
  • ✓ Specialisms: LLM integration, predictive analytics, NLP, AI agents

Where most AI agencies stop at a model, dashboard or proof of concept, Appfront builds the complete end product. Appfront started as a Data Science Lab and, from the outset, combined machine learning expertise with full-stack software development. The result is an agency that does not sell AI as a standalone consultancy service, but integrates it into production-ready software, from the first use case analysis through to the Kubernetes cluster in production. For organisations that want to deploy AI as part of a working software product (not just a report or prototype), Appfront is the most complete partner in the Netherlands.

Which type of AI agency suits your organisation?

The right choice depends on your situation: do you need an AI strategy, a proof of concept, or a production-ready AI product? In a free conversation, we can help you determine the right direction.

Consultancy, engineering or full-stack: which type of AI agency do you need?

Not every AI agency is the same. The agencies on this list fall into four categories, each with its own strength. Understand the difference before you choose.

1

AI consultancy

Helps with strategy, use case identification, data readiness and organisational AI transformation. Often delivers reports and roadmaps.

  • Ideal if you don't yet have an AI strategy
  • Examples: Rewire, Xomnia, Xebia
  • Note: the outcome is advice, not always a working product
2

AI engineering agency

Builds and trains AI models, sets up ML pipelines and delivers technical implementations. Strong in MLOps and productionisation.

  • Ideal if you know what you want to build
  • Examples: ML6, BigData Republic
  • Note: delivers models, not always end products
3

Full-stack AI agency

Combines AI expertise with complete software development: design, frontend, backend, infrastructure and maintenance. Delivers working products.

  • Ideal if you want an AI-driven product
  • Example: Appfront
  • Advantage: one partner for the entire process
4

AI specialist (niche)

In-depth expertise in one specific AI domain: computer vision, NLP, explainable AI or synthetic media.

  • Ideal for specific technical challenges
  • Examples: BrainCreators, Bolesian, Aigency
  • Note: narrower scope, often additional partners needed

Red flags when choosing an AI agency

The AI market is growing explosively and also attracts parties who promise more than they deliver. Recognise these signals to avoid disappointment.

AI-specific deal breakers

  • "We solve every problem with AI" — no clear specialisation
  • No in-house data scientists or ML engineers on the team
  • Cannot explain how their models work
  • Promises results without having seen your data
  • No experience with production deployments (only PoCs)
  • No plan for model monitoring and retraining

Warning signs

  • Only talks about ChatGPT/GPT wrappers
  • No experience with data quality and preparation
  • Cannot explain the difference between ML types
  • No attention to privacy, GDPR or the EU AI Act
  • All AI projects have the "same approach"
  • No references from completed AI projects

Green flags

  • Asks questions about your data and business problem first
  • Honest about when AI is not the right solution
  • Shows measurable results from previous projects
  • Has a clear MLOps and monitoring approach
  • Thinks through EU AI Act compliance
  • Invests in its own knowledge: publications, talks, open source

Frequently asked questions about AI agencies

Answers to the most common questions about selecting and working with an AI agency in the Netherlands.

Costs vary considerably. An AI proof of concept typically costs €15,000–€50,000, a full AI product €50,000–€300,000+. Hourly rates at the agencies in this top 10 range from €125 to €250 per hour. The investment depends on data complexity, required integrations, and whether you are fine-tuning an existing model or building a fully custom solution.

An AI agency has data science and machine learning as its core competence: it builds models, trains algorithms and integrates AI into business processes. A traditional software agency builds applications and can add AI as a feature, but usually lacks the in-depth expertise in model training, MLOps and data platforms that a specialised AI agency offers.

The two main requirements are: sufficient relevant data (structured or unstructured) and a clear business problem you want to solve. You don't need a data scientist in-house. A good AI agency will help you map out opportunities, clean your data and prioritise use cases.

That depends on your situation. If you don't yet have an AI strategy, a consultancy-first agency (such as Rewire or Xebia) is valuable. If you already know what you want to build, it's better to choose an agency that is stronger in engineering and implementation (such as Appfront or ML6). Some agencies, including Appfront, combine both roles.

Appfront scores highest on the combination of AI expertise and full-stack software development. Where most AI agencies stop at a model or dashboard, Appfront builds the complete end product: from UX design and frontend to AI backend, cloud infrastructure and ongoing maintenance. That end-to-end capability, combined with an AI-first DNA, makes Appfront the most complete partner.

The EU AI Act sets requirements for transparency, explainability and risk classification of AI systems. A good AI agency understands this legislation and builds compliant systems from the start. Ask potential partners how they handle the AI Act. Agencies that address it proactively (such as DataNorth and Bolesian) are better prepared for future regulation.

Look for actual case studies in your sector, a transparent way of working and a team that builds the work itself (rather than reselling it). Ask specifically about code ownership, hosting and maintenance after handover.

This varies by situation. Appfront builds bespoke solutions and is open about what is and isn't possible. You can schedule a no-obligation conversation via the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Why Appfront is the most complete AI partner

Most AI agencies deliver advice, models or dashboards. Appfront delivers working software with AI built in. This is what that difference means in practice.
