AI course for entrepreneurs.

A practical AI course designed for entrepreneurs who need to decide where AI fits in their business. No academic introduction, no sales pitch for a single tool, but an honest picture of what AI can do, what the law requires and how you can get a return on it tomorrow without tearing everything apart. Taught by engineers and strategists who build AI systems themselves.

Why an AI course for entrepreneurs?

Most AI training falls into one of two extremes. On one side are academic courses that explain how a transformer works mathematically: interesting, but useless when you have to turn a client case into a Copilot workflow on Monday. On the other side are tool-driven sales sessions in which one vendor tells you that its product solves everything. What entrepreneurs need lies in between: an honest overview of the landscape, a sense of what AI can and cannot do, and concrete guidance for taking the first step in your own business.

This course is designed for the people who have to make the call. The director of a family business who sees the quote department grinding to a halt. The freelance consultant who notices colleagues are faster with ChatGPT. The founder of a scale-up choosing between building, buying or waiting for now. A board member of a trade association who wants to inform members honestly. For all of these roles, you need to understand quickly enough what is going on to decide sensibly, without a second career as a prompt engineer.

What sets us apart from conventional trainers: Appfront builds AI systems itself, from AI agents and RAG applications to custom LLM integrations in existing software. Our trainers are the same people who write code and prompts with clients during the working day. That gives you a practical perspective rather than slides: where things genuinely go wrong in production, which vendor claims are overblown and which are marketing, and how a simple ChatGPT workflow differs from a serious enterprise implementation. We won't sell you a tool, and we don't earn commission on any single vendor. That is precisely the point.

The course is deliberately pitched at the level of an entrepreneur: you don't need to become a developer, but you also shouldn't have to settle for buzzwords. We work with concepts you can use in a conversation with your accountant, your IT partner or an investor. What does your employee do when a client asks whether their file was pasted into ChatGPT? What do you say when your competitor claims everything is now "AI-powered" and half the cost? What is the first question you ask a supplier who offers you an AI solution? Skills of that kind, concrete and defensible, are at the heart of the course.

Who is this AI course? for

01
SME owners

Management of companies with 5–100 employees

You can see colleagues already using AI, sometimes officially and sometimes under the radar, and you want to get a grip on it. Which tools belong with which functions, what will change for your business model, and where is the return on investment that isn't just hype? We discuss use cases that suit the scale and margins of SMEs, not enterprise budgets or a corporate AI lab.

02
Freelancers & consultancy

Self-employed professionals in advisory, finance and marketing

For freelancers, AI is the first genuine productivity leap since the cloud era. At the same time, the risk of slip-ups is high: client data pasted into the wrong chat, output that is wrong and that the adviser no longer corrects, or an overly narrow choice of tool. We help you choose which combination of ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot suits your work and how to deploy it safely for clients.

03
Founders & scale-ups

Founders who must respond to AI strategically

You are building a company in a market where competitors are arriving with AI, or where your own proposition is being transformed by it. Questions we work through: do we build AI into the product ourselves or buy a layer in, how do we design a responsible data architecture, and how do we explain to investors which AI strategy you are pursuing? Can be combined with our AI strategy consultancy.

04
Family businesses & trade associations

Leaders who need to bring others along

For family businesses and trade associations, AI is often also a question of generations and culture. We give you the language to hold an honest conversation with colleagues, members or supervisory bodies: about what is realistic, what is hype, and which risks you must take seriously before you get staff and members excited about a new tool.

Three things you take away from this AI course.

Outcome 01

A clear mental model

After the course you will know what a large language model is and what it is not, how it relates to classical machine learning, and why AGI is marketing language. No mathematics, but the kind of understanding that lets you see through vendor claims.

Outcome 02

Concrete tool choice

You'll know which combination of ChatGPT Teams, Claude, Copilot or Gemini suits your company size and sector, which licence types exist and what the practical differences are. No ranking, but a responsible choice for your context.

Outcome 03

A plan for Monday

You leave with two or three use cases you can take on within your own business, including an honest assessment of what is simple and what is more likely to become part of a larger enterprise AI programme. A direction, not wishful thinking.

Format and schedule.

We work in a compact, session-based way. Online, in person or hybrid, depending on what fits your diary and how deep you want to go. Follow-up sparring is available for business owners who want to continue after the course.

Format 01 · compact

Short introductory session

A focused session in which we cover the basics of AI, explain the AI Act obligation and identify the first use cases for your business. Suited to business owners who want a quick, honest overview before investing. Online or in person.

Format 02 · in depth

Two-part programme

A two-session format: first content and mental models, then hands-on work with your own prompts, documents and concrete use cases. Between the sessions you receive assignments that we revisit afterwards. Suited to leadership teams and family businesses.

Format 03 · follow-up

Sparring after the course

After the course you can still book individual sparring hours when you face a specific decision, such as tool purchases, policy texts or build versus buy. There is no mandatory subscription; you get in touch when needed. Optionally growing into an AI strategy programme.

Why Appfront and not a conventional AI trainer?

A
Practitioner perspective

We build AI in production ourselves

Most AI trainers make their living from training. We make ours from building, and we run training because business owners often ask us to explain what we do. That means during the course you get examples from real projects, what works, what breaks and why, rather than slides that are the same for everyone. Combinable with our AI strategy support if you want to go further after the course.

B
Tool-neutral

No sales for a single vendor

We don't work on commission for OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft or Google. You get an honest overview of what ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini each do well and where they fall short. That saves a lot of pain later: a wrongly chosen subscription or the wrong tool stack costs more than a day's course.

C
Business-owner level

Not academic, not developer-deep

This course is written for people who make strategic decisions, not for people who want to write code. We skip the maths and the developer jargon too. What remains are the concepts, models and questions you need to hold sensible conversations with colleagues, clients and suppliers.

D
Small agency

Direct contact, no middle layer

Appfront is a small software agency based in Amsterdam. You get the people who deliver the course, not a sales manager with a trainer somewhere further down the line. Any questions that come up afterwards you can put to us directly: no ticketing system, no account manager acting as a buffer.

Frequently asked questions.

What exactly does the AI course for business owners cover?
The core curriculum covers: what AI is and isn't, what the EU AI Act requires of your business, which tools are practical (ChatGPT Teams, Claude, Copilot, Gemini), safe use and data handling, costs and ROI, building versus buying, and drafting a workable policy. On top of that, we choose use cases and exercises that suit your sector, whether advisory, marketing, finance or e-commerce. We work hands-on with your own business context rather than generic examples.
Is my company legally required to ensure AI literacy under the AI Act?
Yes. If your organisation uses AI, and in practice almost every business now does, Article 4 of the EU AI Act applies. That article requires providers and deployers of AI systems to ensure sufficient AI literacy among staff and other people dealing with those systems. A dedicated AI literacy training can become part of the programme. This course gives business owners and directors the strategic picture; for broader staff we recommend the more in-depth literacy track.
Is the course delivered online or in person?
Both are possible. Online works well for the content-based sections, while in person adds value for hands-on work and interaction within a management team. For family businesses and SMEs with several decision-makers we often recommend in person; for sole traders and independent founders online works excellently. We align the format with your schedule and group.
How long does the course take?
We work compactly and in sessions, not in full-day training blocks. Depending on the format, whether a short introduction or a two-part programme with hands-on work, it runs from a few hours to a number of sessions spread over a few weeks. We will plan the specifics with you: it depends on how deep you want to go and who is at the table.
What determines the cost?
Costs are driven by three factors: group size (one entrepreneur or a management team), format (a compact introduction or a two-part programme), and the amount of custom preparation we do based on your industry and business context. After an introductory conversation we give you a fixed quote, so you know where you stand upfront. We have separate rates available for trade associations.
Is a follow-on programme possible after the course?
Yes. Many business owners want to book ad hoc sparring hours after the course, for example when choosing a specific tool, drafting an AI policy, or launching a first implementation. This can be arranged without a fixed subscription. Should it grow into a substantial implementation, we connect to our services in enterprise AI implementation, AI agent development or custom LLM integrations.
Is the course suitable for sole traders?
Absolutely. For sole traders in advisory, marketing, finance or consultancy the course is very practical: you get answers to which combination of tools suits your work, how to handle client data safely in prompts, and what productivity gains are realistic. We offer a lighter format for individual sole traders and group sessions for networks or trade associations.
