Custom AI Dutch team From strategy to production

AI developer in the Netherlands: your partner in artificial intelligence

Appfront designs and builds AI solutions that concretely improve business processes. Not a proof of concept that ends up in a drawer, but working software your team uses every day. We work from Amsterdam with a dedicated development team, directly with your stakeholders.

What does an AI developer do for your organisation?

An AI developer turns business challenges into working intelligent software. It doesn't start with the technology but with the problem you want to solve. Which process takes up too much time? Where does your team make mistakes because of information overload? Where is revenue slipping away due to slow decision-making?

At Appfront, we combine technical AI expertise with years of experience building business applications. We know the system landscapes of mid-sized and large organisations in the Netherlands: the ERP integrations, the GDPR requirements, the internal resistance to new tools. That context makes the difference between a demo that impresses and a system that is still running three months later.

As an AI partner, we help you assess feasibility before you invest. Not every problem requires AI. Sometimes smart automation with rules is enough. Sometimes the data simply isn't there. We are honest about what AI can and cannot do, so your investment delivers a return rather than technological prestige.

From initial exploration to production deployment. We cover the full chain, but you choose where you need support.

🧭

AI strategy and feasibility

Together, we determine where AI will deliver the most value in your organisation. We map your processes, assess data quality and deliver a concrete roadmap with a cost estimate. No abstract vision documents, but actionable steps.

⚙

Custom AI solutions

Custom AI software built on your specific data and processes. From document processing and classification to predictive models and decision support. Trained on your domain knowledge, tested with your team.

📊

Machine learning models

Development of models for pattern recognition, forecasting and anomaly detection. We choose the right architecture for each use case: from classical ML to fine-tuned LLMs, depending on what your data and budget allow.

🔗

AI integration into existing systems

Your new AI functionality only works once it runs within your existing landscape. We build integrations with your CRM, ERP, data warehouse or legacy systems via APIs and middleware. Not a silo, but a working whole.

💾

Data engineering and preparation

AI is only as good as the data beneath it. We help you clean, structure and make your data accessible. From ETL pipelines to feature engineering, so your models train on reliable input.

🎓

AI training and adoption

An AI system only works if your team trusts and uses it. We provide workshops, manuals and guidance during rollout. Not as a one-off handover, but as an ongoing process until the team runs it independently.

AI applications we build for Dutch organisations

We have built and advised on AI solutions for organisations in healthcare, transport, financial services and B2B services. Below are the most common areas of application.

Process automation

Documents read, typed and forwarded by hand. Invoices entered into three systems. Requests waiting in a mailbox until someone picks them up. AI-driven process automation replaces these repetitive steps with intelligent processing: documents are automatically classified and extracted, workflows start without human intervention, and exceptions are only routed to an employee when the system cannot resolve them itself.

Predictive analytics

When will a machine fail? Which customer is at risk of cancelling? How much stock will you need next week? Predictive models analyse your historical data and provide answers before a problem arises. We build these models on your own data, including monitoring so you can see when a model needs recalibrating.

Intelligent customer service

Chatbots do more than answer FAQs. They understand context, detect sentiment and route complex questions to the right colleague. Combined with your CRM and knowledge base, the AI knows who it is talking to and what the history is. See also our page on AI customer service automation.

Document processing and analysis

Scanning contracts for risk clauses. Summarising medical records. Automatically categorising and routing incoming post. AI-driven document processing saves hours of manual reading each day and reduces the risk of missed information. We build this to GDPR standards, with logging of every AI decision. Why choose Appfront as your AI partner in the Netherlands?

Dozens of companies offer AI development. This is why organisations choose us.

Dutch team, direct lines

Your AI project is built by our team in Amsterdam. No offshore teams, no intermediaries. The developer training your model sits on the same call as your product owner. That saves weeks of miscommunication.

Pragmatic, not buzzword-driven

We won't recommend AI where a spreadsheet will do. We don't use GPT-4 where a regex does the same job. Every technology choice is backed by a cost-benefit analysis. You pay for results, not complexity.

From prototype to production

Many AI initiatives stall after the demo. We see them through until the system runs in production, including monitoring, error handling and scalability. The same engineers who build the prototype take charge of the production rollout.

Experience in regulated sectors

Healthcare, financial services, government. We know how GDPR, NEN 7510 and sector-specific compliance requirements shape your AI architecture. That expertise is built into our design process, not added as an afterthought audit.

Transparent way of working

Fortnightly demos, access to your code repository, clear sprint planning. You know exactly where your budget goes and how far the project has progressed. No black box.

Long-term partner

AI models need upkeep: data drifts, requirements change, regulations evolve. We offer ongoing management and optimisation, so your AI investment keeps delivering value after go-live.

Technology we use

We choose technology based on your use case, not on what's new. Our stack includes both open-source frameworks and commercial platforms, depending on what suits your scalability, budget and maintenance arrangements.

Frameworks and models

PyTorch TensorFlow scikit-learn Hugging Face LangChain OpenAI API Claude API Azure AI

Infrastructure and deployment

Docker Kubernetes AWS SageMaker Azure ML PostgreSQL Redis FastAPI Next.js

We choose deliberately for each project. An AI app for a start-up calls for a different stack than an enterprise integration into an existing SAP landscape. In the strategy conversation, we decide together which technology suits your situation.

Our four-phase AI development process

Every AI project follows the same structure, whether it is an LLM integration or a predictive model. The phases ensure we validate step by step rather than spending months building something that doesn't fit.

1

Exploration and feasibility

We analyse your challenge, assess the available data and determine whether AI is the right solution. This produces a concrete go/no-go decision, including expected impact and a cost estimate. If in doubt, we recommend an AI discovery workshop as the first step.

2

Design and architecture

We design the AI solution: which model, which data pipeline, how it integrates with your existing systems, and how we handle edge cases and errors. This results in a technical design you can review before any code is written.

3

Iterative development

We build in two-week sprints with interim demos. You see the system take shape, give feedback on a working product, and steer it where needed. No three months of radio silence followed by a delivery that doesn't fit.

4

Implementation and handover

Rollout to production with monitoring, alerting and documentation. We train your team, hand over the code and remain available for further development. The AI runs on your infrastructure or in an environment we manage, depending on your preference.

What does AI development concretely deliver for your organisation?

No abstract promises, but measurable results we have seen in previous projects.

Lower operational costs

Automating repetitive tasks saves hours per week for each employee. Document processing that takes an hour by hand, an AI system completes in seconds. The saving is measurable from week one.

Better decision-making

Predictive models give your management insights that remain invisible in spreadsheets. Which customers are likely to churn? Where is the next bottleneck? Data-driven decisions instead of gut feeling.

Scalable growth

AI grows with you without a linear increase in costs. Processing ten times as many requests doesn't require ten times as many FTEs. Your organisation can grow without the back office scaling proportionally.

Competitive advantage

Organisations that deploy AI respond faster, personalise better and make fewer errors. Your customers, your employees and your competitors will notice that difference.

Data privacy and compliance

AI projects almost always involve sensitive data. We build with privacy and compliance as a starting point, not an afterthought.

GDPR-compliant by design

Data minimisation, purpose limitation and logging of AI decisions are built into our architecture from day one. We build in consultation with your privacy officer and document processing in line with the requirements.

AI Act readiness

The European AI Act sets requirements for high-risk AI systems. We classify your use case, implement the required transparency and documentation, and ensure your system complies with the regulation, which will be fully in force from August 2026.

Do you work in healthcare or the financial sector? We have experience with NEN 7510, ISO 27001 and sector-specific guidelines. Discuss your compliance requirements in a no-obligation conversation.

Frequently asked questions about AI development in the Netherlands

How much does an AI project cost with Appfront? +
That depends on complexity. A feasibility study starts at a few thousand euros. A fully custom AI solution with integrations, training and rollout typically ranges from €30,000 to €150,000. We always provide a reasoned cost estimate after the strategy conversation, so you know in advance what to expect.
How long does it take to build an AI solution? +
An MVP typically takes eight to twelve weeks. A full production implementation with integrations and rollout takes three to six months. We work in sprints, so you see working functionality from week two and can steer the project.
Do we have enough data for AI? +
We assess this in the discovery phase. Sometimes there is more data than you think, spread across several systems. Sometimes there is insufficient data, and we first advise on a data collection strategy. And for certain use cases, pre-trained models (such as LLMs) can be deployed without your own training data.
Can AI be integrated with our existing software? +
Yes. Integration with existing systems is a core part of our work. We build API integrations with CRM systems, ERP packages, databases and legacy applications. Whether your landscape includes Microsoft, SAP, Salesforce or custom software, we make sure the AI component fits in seamlessly.
What if AI turns out not to be the right solution? +
Then we'll tell you so. In the discovery phase we honestly assess whether AI is the best route. Sometimes smart automation without AI is more effective and cheaper. You pay for the strategy conversation, not for a predetermined outcome.
How do you handle GDPR in AI projects? +
Privacy by design is our starting point. We minimise data use, implement anonymisation where possible, log AI decisions for explainability and document processing in line with DPIA requirements. For projects in healthcare or the financial sector, we work closely with your Data Protection Officer.
